Purpose:
To advance the Division of Students' vision as "Partners in Student Success'', the the Assistant Director, Student Systems leads the Systems team in the delivery of student-facing systems that are exceptional, student-centered, and responsive to the needs of York University's diverse student population. The Office of the University Registrar (OUR) provides services to all York prospective and current students supporting their interest in the institution, exercising the divisional values of Courage, Connection and Empathy, through recruitment, admissions, all registrarial functions, grades, academic standing, financial aid support, student services, student systems through to graduation. The OUR has a unique opportunity to provide high level, student-centered service from a student's first interaction with the University through every step to graduation.Under the direction of the Director, Student Systems, the Assistant Director, Student Systems will be accountable for the success of unit specific strategies, operations, work processes, and enhancement initiatives. This position will lead the Student Systems team and contribute towards establishing and reinforcing cultural change for a new service delivery model in the unit. As a key collaborator and partner, the Assistant Director will build a positive and supportive environment, working in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders to provide excellent service delivery and agility in the support of partner units in the OUR including Student Financial Services, Student Records & Scheduling, Student Recruitment & Admissions, and Student Support & Advising, as well as with services delivered by other teams from across the University,

Education:
University degree preferably in Computer Science, Information Technology or Business Administration with a focus in business information systems. Master's degree preferred.

Experience:

Minimum of 6 years relevant professional experience inclusive of: Four (4) years in a people management role with direct application support and systems projects responsibilities with working knowledge of information technologies (on-premises, cloud, etc.), preferably in a university environment in areas pertaining to the Registrar's Office. Three (3) years hands-on experience providing direct support to cross-functional teams and stakeholders in systems enhancements, maintenance, and operations of business information systems.
Experience in leading, coaching and building a high-performance team.
Demonstrated experience and success in strategic planning and execution.
Leadership experience in service excellence initiatives including technical program and project management, process improvement, change management and risk analysis.
Experience as technical lead in the implementation and/or support of a Student Information System or an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system or equivalent.
Experience in leading systems and data integration projects.
Experience in data management, data governance and data quality practices.
Experience in the higher education industry is preferred.
Supervisory experience in a unionized environment.
Demonstrated experience and success in providing and/or creating conditions for service excellence for a variety of stakeholders such as students, faculty, clients, customers, colleagues, users, etc.

Excellent technical knowledge in information systems (on-premises and cloud systems), system administration, processes, data quality, workflow, project/program management, release management and technology Skills

Possess a high level of emotional intelligence and sophisticated interpersonal skills to develop and maintain relationships across all functions at all levels.
Ability to make sound decisions by exercising judgement, diplomacy, tact, and discretion in a high-pressure environment with changing and conflicting priorities.
Analytical and possesses a combination of strong business acumen and technical skills.
Up to date knowledge of the latest technologies in student systems, student advising, early alerts, artificial intelligence, workflows, and other tools that advance York's vision of being partners in student success.
Demonstrated knowledge of database concepts and design, data and systems analysis, business intelligence and reporting.
Adopt best practices in project management, business system analysis and process reengineering to deliver quality solutions that exceed users' expectations.
Effective verbal and written skills to communicate effectively, ability to explain technical concepts in a non-technical manner.
Has a genuine desire to develop employees to maximize their professional potential.
Ability to foster and improve employee engagement.
Understanding of collective agreement administration and working in a unionized setting.

The selected incumbent for this role is eligible for a hybrid work arrangement which will be confirmed based on operational requirements. The Incumbent may sit in an office or open environment.

*Compensation:
York's CPM Compensation Framework has a salary grid consisting of 6 or 8 steps (depending on job grade) which is reviewed annually with possible adjustments, and a lump sum Performance Based Recognition Award.
