Reporting to the Director of Research Priorities and Partnerships the Research/Awards Officer is responsible for coordinating research activities for the Lassonde School of Engineering. The mandate of this position is to make certain that Lassonde's slate of nominations in every category is large, strong, well balanced and successful.In coordination with the Director, the Research/Awards Officer contributes to the planning, coordination and development and delivery of presentations and workshops regarding opportunities, processes and procedures to enhance, promote and support the research enterprise in the Lassonde School of Engineering. Facilitates and supports applications for funding and award nominations. Specifically, responsible for assembling and coordinating nomination files for a variety of external and internal awards and applications for faculty at Lassonde. The position provides advice and support services to faculty members seeking nominations and applying for research funding, awards, prizes and fellowships. Works with research support staff at Lassonde and collaborates with other York University research support service providers such as VPRI and President's office when necessary, to ensure that researchers have timely access to information. Leads the completion of high quality and highly competitive nomination files. maintains and disseminates information on potential opportunities (including building and maintaining an online awards database) and prepares communication briefs on successful files. and works with faculty and research support staff across the institution to build capacity to be successful in supporting faculty members in securing research funding honours, fellowships, awards and prizes. Under the direction of the Director of Research this position will also research and collect data on external and internal awards available for staff and students at Lassonde. Act as the resource regarding available research opportunities and provide similar support for the nomination/application process, as required

Master's Degree, preferred Master's of Science or Engineering.

A minimum of 3 years recent experience in an institutional setting supporting research functions. Experience must include writing or assisting with preparing applications for prizes/awards and writing research proposals in Science and/or Engineering fields of study.In addition, experience in independent research/graduate work. knowledge of government research granting counsels, and other applicable external funding agencies is required. A comprehensive understanding of university and Faculty structures and legislative and research-granting processes. Experience in preparing high profile nomination files for prestigious awards and medals and administrating grant proposal post and pre award including compliance with budget issues would be an asset.


Advanced knowledge of the research landscape and funding mechanisms for research.
Excellent written and oral communication skills and ability to work with faculty members, students and external partners. Effective interpersonal and public relations skills, including conflict resolution
Advanced writing skills, strong analytical skills and excellent organizational and time management skills.
Demonstrated ability to work well with others and under deadline pressures.
Proven ability to exercise sound judgment and discretion.
Proven ability to handle very details-oriented work
Intermediate level skills in Microsoft office and including Microsoft word, Excel, Power-point Ability to create and work with various databases and online based tools.
