Purpose:
The k2i academy in the Lassonde School of Engineering is looking for Program Mentors during the Summer to support of the planning and delivery of STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) programming for students in Kindergarten to Grade 12. Program Mentors will design, hands-on STEM activities and programming, facilitate STEM research project activities, and deliver high-quality and active mentorship in the Bringing STEM to Life: Work-Integrated Learning Programs.
Education:
- Current or recent undergraduate student.
- Preference will be given to students enrolled in an undergraduate program in science, technology, engineering, or math (STEM).
- Applicants in other areas of study are still encouraged to apply.
Experience:
- Experience working with youth is required.
- Experience in coding and engineering design is preferred.
- Previous experience working in a research lab is an asset.
Skills:
- Ability to understand and demonstrate instructions, policies and procedures.
- Ability to lead, mentor and motivate others towards learning new knowledge.
- Ability to provide instruction and support other in developing knowledge or skills.
- Ability to demonstrate responsible, ethical, and professional conduct.
- Ability to verbally communicate with others to explain and share information.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint) and the Google G Suite (Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides, Forms, and Slack).
Additional Notes:
- Must have a valid Social Insurance Number at the time of application
- Must have a valid Emergency First Aid CPR/AED Level C certification.
- Legally able to work in Canada.
- Vulnerable Sector Police check is required.
- Ability to work in-person at the York University Keele and/or Markham campuses.
- Ability to work virtually with access to a professional work environment and stable internet.
- Ability to lift/move/carry equipment or material of varying weights up to 20lbs. Accommodations are available.
- A valid Class G Driver's License and access to a vehicle is an asset.
