Purpose:
Osgoode Professional Development, the continuing legal education arm of Osgoode Hall Law School, ('OPD') has run ITAW every year since 1979. This is a six (6) consecutive day program that provides a hands-on opportunity for junior lawyers to develop and practice essential trial skills. The program consists of at least 135 participants, over 75 of the top trial advocacy lawyers, as well as respected and experienced judges. ITAW is focused on teaching lawyers with limited trial experience how to improve their courtroom skills. The Program Coordinator, ITAW is mainly responsible for pre, post and in-program tasks related to the Intensive Trial Advocacy Workshop (ITAW). The Program Coordinator, ITAW position offers both undergraduate and law school students the opportunity to work with leading legal professionals and showcase their skills in a dynamic team-based environment.
Education:
Current student. Current JD students or undergraduate students with an interest in the justice legal system/legal studies or professional development/adult education would be preferred. Preference will be given to York University students.
Experience:
Previous work experience in the justice/legal system or professional development/adult education would be preferred. experience working with a Learning Management System (such as Moodle), eCommerce and database management.
Skills:
Advanced technical skills including Excel, Access, Adobe Acrobat, and Word.
Knowledge of Moodle (or other Learning Management Systems), Zoom, eCommerce, and database management.
Effective communication skills.
Ability to demonstrate organizational skills to carry out a variety of tasks.
Ability to pay attention to detail.
Effective customer service skills.
Ability to exercise judgement and decision making.
Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
Additional Notes:
For 2025, the position will be carried out on a hybrid (work-from-home and in-person) basis from May to August 2025. Additionally, full-time in-person attendance in downtown Toronto will be required during and just before the ITAW program.
