Purpose:
Facilities Services is a team of professionals who are committed to the delivery of support services that strive to enhance the quality of campus life for all students, faculty, staff, and visitors. Provides quality and productive engineering services by repairing and maintaining York's utilities.
Education:
Must possess a current 2nd Class Stationary Engineer's Certificate in the Province of Ontario. (2nd Class, standardized/inter-provincial certificate preferred). Must hold a valid Ontario G class driver's license in good standing. A current and valid Certificate of Achievement in Cross Connection Control endorsed by the Ontario Water Works Association or completion the Cross Connection Control Specialist courses and possesses a current Calibration Certificate is preferred.
Experience:
Two (2) years' experience as an operating shift engineer or equivalent experience in shift and maintenance. Experience as a 2nd class operating shift engineer preferred. Experience in operating a Cogeneration Plant is an asset. Maintenance experience is an asset. Demonstrated ability in the operation of plant and equipment. Demonstrated ability in trouble shooting, diagnosing, and correcting malfunctioning of various types of equipment and controls encountered in the Utilities unit. Demonstrated ability to weld and cut. Gas turbine cogeneration experience would be considered an asset
Skills:
Must possess a sound knowledge of the operation of high voltage (up to 27.6kV) power distribution systems. Demonstrated ability to maintain water mains, fire hydrants, high pressure steam reducing systems, electrical and pneumatic controls, electrical substation switch gear, and chilled water systems. Must possess leadership qualities. Must possess the ability to get on well with others and work closely with the Maintenance Trades Group. Ability to respond quickly to emergency situations. Must possess good oral and written skills. Respects diversity and promotes inclusion in the workplace, contributes to an inclusive and diverse team-based, positive work environment. Recognizes diversity of abilities and adapt content, tone, medium, and style to audience to be inclusive.
