Purpose:
Network Operations supported by the Network Services team is a key component in the University information technology infrastructure and requires robust reliable systems with high availability to support a diverse number of applications affecting a very broad range of university academic and business activities. Reporting to the Assistant Manager, Network Operations, the Network Technician WLAN and OSS provides advanced technical support services for the University's data network systems. The incumbent takes a lead role in the configuration, provisioning, and support of the University's Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) infrastructure, as well as Operational Support Systems employed by UIT Network Services.

Education:
University Degree in a relevant discipline, such as Computer Science, Computing Engineering, Information Technology, or an equivalent of 4 years recent experience (defined as within the last five years) working at York University and performing the same or similar tasks. This education equivalency is in addition to the experiential requirements outlined below.

Experience:
5 years recent relevant and related work experience that demonstrates thorough and hands-on experience and understanding about the industry standards and protocols governing data network infrastructures and data networking.

Effective writing skills to produce clear, concise documentation

Ability and willingness to work effectively as a member of a team with both internal and external partners.
Effective service orientation coupled with an ability to assess the operational significance of a problem and to set priorities accordingly.
Understands the importance of operating within problem, change, capacity management and disaster recovery IT disciplines.
Ability to exercise tact and diplomacy, maintain confidentiality.
Ability to deal calmly and effectively with technical and non-technical people.
Effective analytical, evaluative and technical problem-solving skills.
Effective organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability and willingness to keep abreast of technological developments with an ability to adapt quickly to rapidly changing environments.
