Purpose:
The Advisor, Post-Graduate Medical Education (PGME) serves in this capacity for the York University School of Medicine.

Reporting to the Dean of Record, School of Medicine, the Advisor, PGME plays a critical role in facilitating the development of residency programs. In this role the Advisor will facilitate the discussion regarding which residency programs should be implemented at the School of Medicine and provide recommendations to the Dean of Record. This role provides expert guidance and strategic advice on policies and procedures regarding Post-Graduate Medical Education. The role supports the vision, mission, values and strategic direction of the York University School of Medicine.

The Advisor, PGME collaborates closely with other Advisors and the administrative team for the School of Member as well as members within York University to ensure compliance with institutional policies and regulations and foster a supportive and inclusive academic environment.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Chairs the PGME committee.
  • Leads committee meetings, sets agendas, and guides discussions on PGME initiatives, ensuring alignment with institutional and accreditation requirements for postgraduate residency programs for the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC) and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC).
  • Fosters a collaborative, evidence-based approach to decision-making regarding the development of residency programs for the School of Medicine.
  • Represents the PGME committee in providing recommendations about residency programs, governance structure and accreditation requirements to the Dean of Record.
  • Represents York University’s School of Medicine at the Council of Faculty of Medicine Postgraduate Medical Education Committee (COFM-PGME) and the Association of Faculties of Medicine Committee PGME committee as an observer.
  • Supports the development of pre-accreditation policies and procedures for the PGME activities at the School of Medicine at York University.
  • Proposes a PGME governance structure to the Dean of Record for approval.  Facilitates the development of PGME committees for the CFPC residency program and decided upon RCPSC residency programs.
  • Leverages emerging trends and best practices in Post-Graduate Medical Education across the medical education sector in the development of proposals and recommendations for PGME activities.
  • Leads projects as assigned by the Dean of Record and Executive Director, Operations and Resource Planning.
Qualifications
Minimum Education, Training & Credentials
  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) Degree.
  • Current license in good standing to practice medicine with the relevant provincial or territorial medical regulatory authority (e.g., the College of Physicians and Surgeons in their respective jurisdiction).   
  • Experience in PGME leadership in a Canadian Medical School
  • Please note: This position requires verification of required degrees, training and credentials.
Minimum Experience
  • 3 years of related experience and expertise in PGME leadership in a Canadian Medical School.
Knowledge
  • Knowledge of accreditation standards, and regulatory requirements relevant to Post-Graduate Medical Education, for both CFPC and RCPSC.
  • Familiarity with principles of decolonization, diversity, equity, and inclusion within an academic environment.
  • Knowledge of best practices and trends in Post-Graduate Medical Education, with the ability to apply evidence-based approaches.
  • Knowledge of York University's strategic direction, vision, mission, and values, with specific alignment to the School of Medicine’s goals.

Compensation
Hourly Rate Range:$54.69 - $71.43
