Purpose:
The Faculty Lead, Indigenous Community Health serves in this capacity for the York University School of Medicine.The Faculty Lead, Indigenous Community Health plays a critical role in the integration of Indigenous health content into the Undergraduate Medical Education Program (UGME). The role focuses on addressing Indigenous health disparities, promoting cultural safety, and embedding the historical and contemporary contexts of Indigenous peoples into the medical curriculum. Reporting to the Dean of Record, School of Medicine, the Faculty Lead works closely with committee members to support the development and implementation of inclusive educational initiatives. This role is integral to fostering respectful and meaningful engagement with Indigenous knowledge and traditions within the School of Medicine.The role demonstrates a commitment to promoting decolonization, equity, diversity and inclusion in medical education and fostering a culture of excellence, professionalism, and lifelong learning.
Education:
Bachelor's Degree in related field.
Master's Degree in a related field.
Regulated Health Professional (registered and in good standing with the respective College)Please note: This position requires verification of required degrees, training and credentials.
Experience:
3 years of experience with community relations in Indigenous communities and who, via experience and/or expertise, can provide guidance on curriculum, admissions and research. Lived experience strongly preferred.
Skills:
Knowledge Requirements:
Knowledge of Indigenous community health issues, including disparities, social determinants of health, and systemic inequities affecting Indigenous communities.
Understanding of Indigenous histories, cultures, and contemporary issues, particularly in relation to health and wellness.
Knowledge of cultural safety principles and practices relevant to Indigenous health in medical education.
Familiarity with decolonization concepts and Indigenous approaches to knowledge-sharing and healthcare.
Knowledge of curriculum development, especially for integrating Indigenous community health, traditional knowledge, and cultural contexts into medical education.
Knowledge of assessment and evaluation methods for measuring curriculum impact on student learning outcomes, attitudes, and clinical competencies.
Knowledge of interdisciplinary collaboration in health education to promote an inclusive approach to Indigenous health.
Knowledge of research methodologies and ethical considerations in conducting research with Indigenous communities.

Skills to coordinate and implement curriculum development initiatives effectively.
Digital literacy for using virtual collaboration tools and educational platforms.
Compensation:
Hourly Range: $47.91-$52.01 per hour
