Purpose:
The mission of the office of External Relations and Communications is to actively promote Osgoode Hall Law School through communications, marketing, programs and special events. The Communications & Events Coordinator will facilitate the integration of events, communication, and marketing initiatives that will promote Osgoode Hall Law School's image and relationship to internal and external constituents. This includes coordinating and acting as a resource to all pan law school events, coordinating and integrating communication and marketing initiatives, and coordinating student/alumni programs. In addition, the incumbent is responsible for the coordination of the Osgoode Hall Law School Alumni Association Board and associated programs.
Education:
Bachelor's degree required in a related field, for example business, event planning, public relations, marketing, communications, etc., or an equivalent of 4 years recent experience (defined as within the last five years) working at York University and performing the same or similar tasks. This education equivalency is in addition to the experiential requirements outlined below.
Experience:
Minimum of 2 years of recent related experience (for example, coordinating events, promotions, public relations, marketing, producing digital and print communication or producing multi-media communications, etc.), preferably in an academic environment. Proficiency with video creation software and desktop publishing software is required (such as Adobe Premiere Pro, Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, etc.). Demonstrated experience with writing, editing, designing and publishing print and digital communications.
Skills:
Knowledge and experience of direct marketing practices/principles, print production and graphic layout
Typing 50 w.p.m., accuracy and attention to detail are essential
Ability to write, edit and proofread a broad range of communications and market pieces for publication
Ability to write, edit and proofread at an advanced level in English language
Impeccable accuracy in grammar, spelling and content verification
Excellent research and interviewing skills
Excellent oral communications to respond to inquiries and interact with others
Strong organization, time management, and project coordination skills
High level of customer service skills
Tact, courtesy, and discretion are essential
Must work effectively under pressure and with a high volume of issues, must handle diverse communications assignments, and work independentlyTechnical Skills
Intermediate level of Word, Excel, and Access required
Intermediate knowledge of WordPress, Abobe Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop and Premiere Pro Design experience and proven expertise in creating brochures, e-newsletters, all social media communications, and promotional pieces.
Must have the ability to use a digital SLR camera and must be proficient with videography creation software
