Purpose:
The primary responsibility of this position is to provide relief animal and specie care and husbandry.

Education:
Education: Graduate of a college program, minimum 2-year duration, with a Diploma of Animal Health or Veterinary Technology, or equivalent such as 2 years practical experience working in a research facility environment (Research Lab Animal Technician RLAT certificate) in addition to the required minimum years of experience indicated below. RVT, RLAT a definite asset.

Experience:
 One year of hands-on animal care in a research or teaching environment an asset. Reporting conditions observed for subsequent follow-up.

Skills:
- Ability to assess health status in rodents, rabbits, amphibians, and non-human primates.
- Ability to complete basic animal nursing care (i.e. wound care, pill administration, SC, IP and IM injections) and complete documentation.
- Ability to complete tasks indicated (as per verbal and written instructions from Vivaria Supervisor or Veterinarian).
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely.
- The role is required to lift up to 23 kg (50 lbs.).
