Purpose:
The mission of York International' / Office of International & Global Engagement' is to develop and foster international activities, in partnership with Faculties and Divisions that support teaching, learning, research and engagement throughout the University. This mission is achieved through a broad array of programs and services designed to provide inclusive and sustainable international and inter-cultural experiences for all York University students, scholars, faculty and staff including learning abroad opportunities, internationalization at home, faculty initiatives, research collaborations and partnerships with universities and organizations around the world. York University prioritizes Internationalization & Global Engagement. Reporting to the Provost & Vice-President Academic, the Assistant Vice-President, Global Engagement & Partnerships (AVP-GEP) will lead the development and implementation of the University's Internationalization & Global Engagement strategy, advancing priorities across campuses and divisions. Under the leadership, oversight and strategic vision of the AVP-GEP, York International will be responsible for supporting the operationalization of the University's Internationalization & Global Engagement Plan. The role will ensure there is appropriate dissemination of data and strategic advice on opportunities to Faculties and other units across campuses to support their work. The role will partner and liaise with relevant external organizations such as Universities Canada, Canadian Bureau of International Education, federal, provincial and international governments, embassies and consular corps in Canada and around the world, as well as international partners. With a second reporting line to the Vice President, Research & Innovation, the AVP-GEP is responsible for strategic oversight and guidance of all aspects of the University's international academic and research activities. The role has a focused oversight for international student and scholar services and will report to the Vice Provost, Students on matters related to international student experience and success. Recognizing that internationalization touches on all aspects of the mission of the University, AVP-GEP will work closely with all members of the senior leadership (PVP) team and will have dotted line reporting relationship to the President and Vice-Chancellor. The role will work in close partnership with other members of the senior leadership team including Advancement and Communications & Public Affairs, Deans, Principals, and the Faculties/Divisions.
Education:
Master's degree in a relevant discipline such as international relations, international development and international education required or acceptable equivalent of education.
Experience:
10 years related experience in the international education sector, demonstrating a deep understanding of global engagement strategies.
7 years management experience.
Experience working with university policies and regulations and developing partnerships and programs that align with institutional goals.
Experience in working with university policy and regulations, partnership and program development, or international opportunities development.
Experience in navigating University structures, policies and procedures and designing systems and processes for program and project implementation.
Experience in program design and delivery and evaluation of programs and projects in a post-secondary environment.
Experience developing relationships and securing partnerships in a post secondary setting.
Experience working effectively in diverse and global contexts.
Experience in managing unionized staff and volunteers.
Skills & Knowledge:
Expertise in developing, executing, and assessing integrated international and global engagement strategies.
Knowledge of internationalization at home initiatives and outbound mobility to develop global outlook and intercultural competencies in students.
Demonstrated understanding of international education.
Knowledge of student development, adult education principles and student affairs practices.
Expertise strengthening international research collaborations by leveraging opportunities with institutions, industry, and government.
Knowledge of enhancing university participation in global networks through strategic partnerships.
Expertise in Canadian Immigration Law critical for the development and policies and procedures to ensure University compliance with immigration regulations.
Ability to lead the consultative process for creating institutional international strategies with clear direction and priorities.
Ability to identify opportunities for faculty and student exchanges, academic collaborations and research partnerships.
Demonstrated skill in advocating, promoting and securing resources for internationalization and global engagement efforts with local and global government, diplomats and other agencies.
Proven ability to work closely with senior leadership and faculty members to create and execute a vision for international and global engagement.
Strong leadership and organizational skills.
Excellent writing and communication skills.
Experience communicating to an ESL community.
Counselling and programming development skills.
Expertise in the following issues: Citizenship & Immigration Canada policies as they relate to international students. Canada Revenue Agency.
Strong presentation skills.
Ability to work with ambiguity when it comes to intercultural issues.
Ability to work independently and to be self-motivated.

*Compensation:
York's CPM Compensation Framework has a salary grid consisting of 6 or 8 steps (depending on job grade) which is reviewed annually with possible adjustments, and a lump sum Performance Based Recognition Award.
