Purpose:
To support the teaching laboratories by providing housekeeping services, maintaining live materials and assisting the Laboratory Technicians.
Education:
High School Diploma including a Science course. Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations.
Experience:
Six months' related experience including washing glassware and equipment, maintaining records in a laboratory setting
Skills:
- Manual dexterity
- Demonstrated ability to handle delicate equipment and glassware
- Demonstrated use of autoclave
- Good organization skills
- Ability to meet consistent attendance and reliability in performing job-related tasks
- WHMIS Level I&II safety training or willingness to learn
- Ability to stand for long periods and work with hands in gloves for long periods
- Ability to follow instructions
- Basic computer skills required
Additional Notes:
Hours of work: 8:30am to 4:30pm. Summer: Same. Requests to work overtime may occur periodically throughout the year. Peak periods for this position: January, March, August, September and early December. Vacation restriction: May be restricted due to laboratory operations during the peak periods.
