Purpose:
The incumbent is the primary support person for Glendon's Faculty Council, is the Executive Assistant to the Chair, and acts as Secretary to all standing committees and sub-committees. The incumbent is responsible for the coordination of all meetings, minute-taking, scheduling speakers, maintaining all records and documents for Faculty Council, and serves as a knowledge expert on governance procedures and policies within York. The incumbent serves as a liaison between Senate and Glendon, tracking and ensuring that all proposals are approved and implemented in a timely manner. The incumbent also drafts and circulates reports and motions on behalf of the Chair of Council for approval whenever necessary.
Education:
A university undergraduate degree or an equivalent of 3 years recent experience such as Business Administration or equivalent such as completion of a post-secondary education in a related field and an equivalent of 2 years recent experience (defined as within the last three years) working at York University and performing the same or similar tasks. This education equivalency is in addition to the experiential requirements outlined below.
Experience:
Minimum 2 years recent related experience in a bilingual (French/English) university or academic environment in governance/policy development, planning analysis, and legislation regarding governance and policy issues in an academic or other public sector is required. The incumbent must have a thorough understanding of Glendon's internal structure and community for this position.
Skills:
The incumbent must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills to elicit, interpret and summarize information in a clear, concise and courteous manner. knowledge of governance writing standards, good problem resolution skills, accuracy to detail, ability to assess and evaluate. This position requires extensive knowledge and understanding of the university's legislation, procedures and timelines. The incumbent must be able to handle governance proposals from the faculty, advise faculty, staff and students on any inaccuracies or potential errors, and guide faculty members' proposals through the appropriate governance channels for approval.
