Purpose:
The Machine Shop Assistant provides operational and technical support for the Machine Shop in the Bergeron Centre, Lassonde School of Engineering, under the direction of the Manager, Safety & Business Operations.
Education:
Completion of a post-secondary diploma or degree in a related field.
Experience:
Minimum of 1-year related experience in designing, fabricating, repairing, testing, and demonstrating use of mechanical/electro-mechanical apparatus.
Skills:
- Ability to work independent and in a team environment.
- Ability to deal courteously and effectively with others.
- Ability to perform troubleshooting of technology and equipment.
- Ability to exercise judgment and decision making.
- Ability to communicate with others to explain and share information.
- Knowledge of mechanical/electro-mechanical elements and machinery (sheet-metal work, carpentry work, welding skills on stainless steel, mild steel and aluminum).
- Proficiency in equipment (Lathe, Milling Machine, Drill Press, Band and table saw, Grinders, Belt sanders, Shear Bending brake, Presses, Welding equipment, Soldering, Measuring equipment, Hand tools, CNC, 3D printers, and Laser cutter)
Additional Notes:
Ability to lift up to 20lbs.
