Purpose:
To provide professional Painting, Plastering & Tile Setting Services to the York Community.
Education:
Current Ontario Certificate of qualification as a Painter (Commercial and Residential) required. Plasterer, Tile Setter or other appropriate certification issued by the Ontario Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities is preferred. Must hold a valid Ontario drivers license (Class 'G'). Successful applicant must obtain a W.H.M.I.S. certificate prior to the completion of the probationary or trial period
Experience:
Minimum 5 years recent related experience in painting with experience in plastering and tile setting, including some construction and maintenance experience
Skills:
Demonstrated ability to mix and match colours, and apply paint with brush, roller and spray equipment. Demonstrated ability to apply various types of wall coverings. The ability to repair plaster wall damage in preparation for wall finishing. Demonstrated ability to install and tape drywall. Demonstrated ability to repair, replace and install ceramic tile. Demonstrated ability to climb high ladders and to assemble, erect and work safely on scaffolding. Demonstrated ability to deal courteously with the public. Ability and aptitude to provide excellent customer service to members of the York Community. Knowledge of all paints, finishings, materials and tools used in the trade. Knowledge of various plaster mixes and methods of repairs to structures. Knowledge of taping materials and methods of their installation and repair. Knowledge of tile setting methods, materials and tools used in the trade as well as appropriate installation and cutting techniques
Hours of Work: Monday to Friday, eight (8) hour shift, normally scheduled between 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. The role is currently assigned to day shifts but requires flexibility to accommodate alternate scheduling, including potential evening, night, or weekend shifts, as operational needs evolve.
Location: This position will operate out of the Keele Campus and include travel between Keele, Glendon, and Markham campuses as required.
