Purpose:
Reporting to the General Counsel, the Access to Information and Privacy Officer is responsible for implementing and supporting programs and practices which facilitate compliance with the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA), Personal Health Information Protection Act (PHIPPA), the Canadian Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL), and other applicable privacy legislation, regulatory and contractual requirements. The Access to Information and Privacy Officer is responsible for providing advice and consultative support to academic, administrative units and senior management of the University on their obligations related to compliance.

Education:

Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline such as public administration, law or information management. Professional certification in privacy and access.

Experience:

Four years of related experience to lead privacy and access to information programs.

Skills:
Knowledge:
Knowledge of university and industry practices and policies for records management, the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA) and Privacy Commissioner Orders, Personal Health Information Protection Act (PHIPPA), and the Canadian Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL).
Knowledge of the structure, organization and governance of the University, faculties, colleges and other divisions including university policies and procedures.
Knowledge of evolving policy and practice in information management and privacy issues.
Understanding of current information technology.

Skills: 
Demonstrated ability in developing operational policies, procedures, best practices and making recommendations for compliance with access and/or privacy legislation and programs
Project coordination and planning required to coordinate requests, manage resources, prioritize work, track progress, and meet approved project timelines.
Demonstrated ability to be flexible and adaptable to changing environments and deal with emerging requirements.
Analytical and evaluation skills to investigate requests, complaints and issues, and provide expertise and recommendations.
Effective communication skills and ability to provide a high level of customer service.
Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships with various levels of individuals.
Demonstrated ability to use sound judgment.
Accuracy and attention to detail.
Demonstrated and proven ability to exercise initiative and work effectively under a high volume of work with continuously changing priorities.
Ability to exercise tact and diplomacy when dealing with confidential information and when dealing with people at all levels of the organization.
Demonstrated expertise in the MS office suite software, Adobe Acrobat and automated records management systems.

*Compensation:
York's CPM Compensation Framework has a salary grid consisting of 6 or 8 steps (depending on job grade) which is reviewed annually with possible adjustments, and a lump sum Performance Based Recognition Award.
