Purpose:
To support the technical operations of the laboratories in the Department of Chemistry by preparing and providing course material, setting-up laboratories, and ensuring a conductive environment for student learning.
Education:
BSc in Chemistry or an equivalent of 4 years recent experience (defined as within the last five years) working at York University and performing the same or similar tasks. The education equivalency is in addition to the experience requirements outlined below.
Experience:
2 years' practical experience such as performing organic/inorganic synthesis and preparing laboratory reagents.Proficiency with chemical instrumentation such as pH/mV meter, atomic absorption and ultra-violet and visible (UV-VIS) spectrometers, balances, high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), gas chromatograph and ptentiostat. comprehensive knowledge of laboratory safety and analytical laboratory techniques
Skills:

Hands-on instrument servicing/repair and modifications
Working effectively under pressure of high volume
Working independently and following task through completion
Ability to set priorities and coordinate workflow

Additional Notes:
This position requires the candidate to produce a verification of degree(s), credentials(s) or equivalencies from accredited institutions and/or international equivalents at the time of interview.Hours of work: Generally 10am to 6pm. however, flexibility within a 7-hour work day outside of the general work hours will be required based on laboratory requirements, for example, 12:00pm to 8:00pm.Summer: This is a sessional position. The sessional period varies based on laboratory requirements.Requests to work overtime may occur periodically throughout the yearVacation restriction: Vacation may be restricted based on the laboratory schedule and will be coordinated to ensure adequate coverage.
