Purpose:
Under the direction of the Associate Director, Career Advising and Design, the Career Design Advisor works as a member of the Centre for Career Design (CCD) team to develop and deliver comprehensive career design curriculum and content that equips all Schulich students with the necessary skills and knowledge for successful job search and professional growth across key industries and sectors. The role gathers information to ensure content remains up-to-date and relevant, while also integrating digital and Artificial Intelligence tools to enhance career exploration and planning. Through one-to-one advising, group workshops, and tailored support for diverse student cohorts, the role facilitates the development of career design skills and provides guidance at all stages of the career exploration process. Additionally, the role collaborates with internal and external partners to enhance program effectiveness and raise awareness of available career resources and supports.

Education:
University degree in a relevant field or an equivalent of 4 years recent experience (defined as within the last five years) working at York University and performing the same or similar tasks. This education equivalency is in addition to the experiential requirements outlined below. Career and Work Counsellor, Career Development Practitioner diploma, Career Development Practitioner (CDP), or similar certification required.

Experience:
Three (3) years' recent related experience facilitating career and job search skills development working with students and new graduates or internationally trained professionals in a fast-paced post-secondary or comparable environment. Experience providing and/or creating conditions for service excellence for students, faculty, clients, customers and colleagues.

Skills:

Effective communication, facilitation, and presentation skills.
Effective interpersonal and public relations skills, including professionalism and diplomacy in dealing with a wide range of contacts both internal and external.
Effective time-management and problem-solving skills with the ability to balance competing demands in a fast-paced environment.
Efficient organizational skills including the ability to set priorities, multi-task, and handle a variety of assignments.
Ability to take initiative and work effectively under pressure of high volume.
Ability to work independently and cooperatively as a member of a team.
Effective event planning skills for in-person and online events including registration links and tracking, creation of invitations and email communications, and room bookings.
Intermediate MS Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint. Proficient with on-line video conferencing tools such as MS Teams, ZOOM, Skype.
Ability to use e-learning technologies and the ability to create multimedia pieces.
Ability to use client relationship management system databases.
Ability to use social media and online platforms for job searching. Knowledge:
Knowledge of current job search strategies and methods.
Knowledge of job search strategies, workshop design, development and evaluation using adult education principles.
Knowledge of local, national, and international job markets, and ability to support students in navigating these markets.
Awareness and understanding of complex cultural differences, including norms, values, and expectations related to employment and career development.
Understanding of the NACE Competencies for a Career-Ready Workforce and their best-practices applications.
