Purpose:
The Director, Strategic & Institutional Research Initiatives role is responsible for leading and coordinating institutional processes and supports for promoting, engaging and overseeing the development of large-scale, institutional research funding opportunities within the Office of Research Services. Guided by the University Strategic Research Plan (SRP) and other Divisional research plans, the role reports to the Assistant VP Research Strategy & Impact. The role works closely with the Vice-President Research & Innovation and the Divisional leadership team, including the Associate Vice-President(s) Research, department staff and other Divisional senior staff and with Faculty research teams, Research Accounting and researchers, to develop large-scale institutional research applications for funding success, enhancing research intensity and the research reputation of the University.
Education:
Bachelors degree in a relevant discipline
Experience:
7 years relevant experience, including minimum 5 years managing staff, preferably in a unionized environment.
Skills:
Knowledge of University research and the Canadian research funding environment, governmental and non-governmental, particularly related to large-scale funding opportunities (>$1M). Understanding of international funding opportunities (e.g., Horizon Europe, NIH programs) an asset.
Effective communication skills.
Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
Effective judgment, initiative, planning, problem-solving and organizational skills. good analytical skills. ability to maintain confidentiality.
Demonstrated commitment to excellence.
Effective change management skills.
Proven ability to construct and analyze multi-year budgets, preferably in large-scale funding applications.
Ability to exercise tact, sensitivity and diplomacy in dealing with varied clientele, especially faculty and senior university administrators.
Attention to detail and comfort with ambiguity and competing priorities. flexibility to meet emerging deadlines and changing priorities.
Demonstrated managerial skills.
Effective computer skills.

*Compensation:
York's CPM Compensation Framework has a salary grid consisting of 6 or 8 steps (depending on job grade) which is reviewed annually with possible adjustments, and a lump sum Performance Based Recognition Award.
