Purpose:
The University Services Centre (USC) is a critical part of York University's (York) shift towards Service Excellence. The USC brings together teams across the administration functions of York into one customer-focused service delivery entity. The Senior Accounting Analyst role is responsible for providing advanced administrative support to ensure the accuracy, compliance, and integrity of York University's financial operations including complex York University bank account reconciliations, accounts receivable, and general ledger activities in alignment with university policies, accounting standards, and tax regulations. The role acts as a subject-matter expert, resolving escalated discrepancies, and as a lead hand resource for the General Accounting team.
The role supports USC's commitment to service excellence by providing high quality, end-to-end client service in a high-volume environment in accordance with USC's service level agreements, including investigating inquiries and issues, and responding to client inquiries in a courteous, professional and timely manner.
Education:
University degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field or an equivalent of 4 years recent experience (defined as within the last five years) working at York University and performing the same or similar tasks. This educational equivalency is in addition to the experiential requirements outlined below.
Experience:
Two years of recent, relevant work experience in accounts receivable or general accounting in a high volume environment. Lead hand experience or experience providing guidance or training to other team members.
Skills:
Strong bookkeeping skills and solid understanding of general accounting principles
High degree of accuracy and attention to detail in financial data entry, reconciliation and reporting
Effective organization and time management skills to manage multiple tasks, prioritize workload, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
Effective communication skills to interact with internal and external partners, including faculty, staff, students, vendors, and financial institutions
Effective client service skills to address inquiries, resolve discrepancies, and provide support in a professional and courteous manner
Ability to work independently and as part of a team, demonstrating collaboration and cooperation with colleagues
Problem solving skills to identify, analyze, and resolve discrepancies and issues
Ability to work under pressure in a high-volume environment, with a sense of urgency and sensitivity to client needs
Proficiency with financial systems (e.g., PeopleSoft, QuickBooks) and Microsoft Office Suite, with intermediate to advanced skills in Excel (e.g., pivot tables, VLOOKUP, data analysis)
Cross-cultural knowledge and awareness of principles and practices of Decolonization, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (DEDI)
