Purpose:
The Faculty of Liberal Arts and Professional Studies (LA&PS) is the largest Faculty at York University with over 23,000 undergraduate and graduate students, and almost 100 programs delivered through 24 Departments, Schools and Colleges, plus the IBM Markham Learning Site. Reporting to the Manager, International Student Success & Engagement and Associate Dean, Global & Community Engagement, the Study Abroad Coordinator role is responsible for promoting and increasing the international mobility and global education of LA&PS students through experiential education programming. This position is also responsible for activities that enhance internationalization on campus through the development of programs and initiatives that promote effective cross-cultural communication and understanding. The successful incumbent has international experience and education, strong cross-cultural sensitivity and communication skills to assist with coordination and support implementation of the Faculty's Strategic Plan for Internationalization. The role also works closely with the Associate Dean, Programs, Associate Dean, Recruitment & Retention, Associate Dean, Students, Director, Student Success, Faculty of LA&PS, and York International (among other campus partners) to ensure that LA&PS study abroad and study away programs are aligned with York University and LA&PS strategic priorities. The Study Abroad Coordinator role will support the vision, mission, values and strategic direction of the Faculty of Liberal Arts & Professional Studies and York University, and contribute to a positive, supportive and client- focused team environment of high performance, respect, trust, collaboration and continuous improvement, embraces diversity and fosters inclusion.

Education:
A university degree (with a focus on international development studies, globalization, North-South relations, multicultural studies, or equivalent) or an equivalent of 4 years' recent experience (defined as within the last five years) working at York University and performing the same or similar tasks. This education is in addition to the experiential requirements outlined below.

Experience:
Two (2) years' experience of recent, directly related work experience in the area of study abroad programming or experiential education, preferably in a high-volume, fast-paced academic environment. Experience in the design, delivery and evaluation of student development and success programs is required. Experience living overseas, studying abroad, and/or competency in a foreign language(s) would be considered assets.

Knowledge and understanding of student development and success theories, internationalization at home, and best practices in global education and study abroad.
Demonstrated familiarity with and sensitivity to cultural diversity and fostering inclusivity.
Strong initiative and results-orientation, and coordination and project management skills.
Efficient interpersonal, relationship building, and public relations skills are essential.
Strong event-planning skills.
Ability to work independently in high-volume, fast pace environment.
Ability to exercise initiative and work effectively as a team member to achieve and support unit/organizational goals.
Ability to synthesize information and make it readily understood for various audiences.
Effective oral communication skills, public speaking and presentation skills.
Accuracy and strong attention to detail.
Ability to exercise good judgment in analyzing and evaluating situations/circumstances and solving problems.
Time management skills, effective organizational skills to handle conflicting priorities, multi-task and meet deadlines.
Ability to use tact, diplomacy and discretion when dealing with others.
Ability to work flexible hours to accommodate a diverse number of international student events and activities (e.g., evenings and weekends).
Advanced MS Office skills are required, including Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook, internet and web- based applications such as Sharepoint.
Demonstrated record of professionalism, good attendance, punctuality and reliability.
