Purpose:

Our dedicated, service-oriented staff allow our Faculty community to flourish.Reporting to the Manager, Academic Advising, the Front Desk Advisor provides front line service to students and completes a range of administrative duties. With a focus on service excellence and exceptional customer service, these duties include providing a high degree of responsive, student-focused support to students. It is the mission of Science Academic Advising to provide quality academic advising that supports students in achieving their personal, academic, and career goals. To achieve this, the role provides a high degree of responsive, student-focused support to students and works collaboratively with the Science Academic Advising team. The role supports the vision, mission, values, and strategic direction of the Faculty of Science and York University, and contributes to a positive, supportive, and student-focused team environment of high performance, respect, trust, collaboration, and continuous improvement, embraces diversity and fosters inclusion.

Education:
High school diploma with some post-secondary University or College courses.

Experience:
Two (2) years of recent and relevant experience in office administration and front desk reception in an academic School/Department. Experience working with an online computerized records system (e.g. SIS) is required.

Ability to deal courteously and effectively with a diverse population of students, faculty, and staff.
Ability to maintain confidentiality.
Effective communication skills to obtain and relay information accurately.
Ability to provide student-focused service delivery and customer service.
Results-oriented, flexible, adaptable, and receptive to change.
Ability to work effectively and accurately under pressure of high volume and frequent interruptions.
Ability to multi-task and maintain attention to detail.
Effective organizational skills including ability to set priorities.
Ability to take initiative and proactively pursue completion of tasks to meet deadlines.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team within the Faculty and across the University.
Ability to coordinate online calendars and event scheduling.
Basic MS Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook).

Additional Notes:
Hours of work: Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Summer: As per University summer hours. Requests to work overtime may occur during peak periods. Vacation restriction: During the months of January, May – August vacation is restricted to one week during these periods. No vacation/time off during the first three weeks of September.
