Purpose:
To advance the Division of Students' vision as Partners in Student Success, the Manager, Student Support & Advising (SSA) leads a team of Student Support Advisors in delivering exceptional, student-centered services that are responsive to the needs of York University's diverse student population. Within the Office of the University Registrar (OUR) which supports students from recruitment and admissions through registrarial services, financial aid, student systems, and graduation the Manager plays a key role in ensuring a seamless, high-quality service experience throughout the student journey.Reporting to the Assistant Director, SSA, the Manager is accountable for unit operations, work processes, and continuous improvement initiatives. The role oversees day-to-day activities, sets operational priorities in collaboration with the Assistant Directors, SSA, and reinforces a service delivery model grounded in excellence and cultural change. A student-focused leader, the Manager embodies the divisional values of Courage, Connection, and Empathy, demonstrating a commitment to service excellence and equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) while working collaboratively with students, faculty, colleges, and campus partners to deliver an outstanding advising experience.

Education:

- Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline such as Education, Business Administration, Adult Education, Higher Education, Psychology, Student Development, or Counselling. Note: Verification of degree(s)/credential(s) required.

Experience:

- 4 years related experience in a post-secondary education environment, preferably in a student service area with extensive experience interpreting, applying, and advising on policies and procedures.
- Program Management experience in one of the following areas: student records, registration, student recruitment, admissions, and/or student financial support.
- 2 years of management or supervisory experience in a unionized environment.
- Experience with work process review, technology implementation, and project management.

Skills:
Knowledge
- Thorough understanding of University regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Thorough knowledge of OSAP policies, procedures, and its related programs.
- Demonstrated knowledge of research pertaining to student service advising, student success, and EDI.
- Demonstrated understanding of the Appreciative Advising model and its application in the delivery of student advising practice.
- Understanding and aptitude of admissions and recruitment tactics as led by leading practices and the Student Recruitment & Admissions team.Skills
- Demonstrated team leadership skills with ability to foster a positive, respectful, inclusive team environment.
- Ability to develop and/or lead cohesive teams and manage performance and productivity.
- Effective interpersonal and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with business and/or academic partners to support the coordination of student services.
- Effective advising skills and sound judgement, including the ability to identify and respond to sensitive issues with empathy and diplomacy.
- Effective verbal, written communication, and presentation skills to provide detailed explanation, effectively articulate ideas and promote involvement.
- Demonstrated organizational and project management skills, to effectively plan priorities and meet deliverable dates.
- Demonstrated commitment to service excellence and the Divisional values of: Courage, Connection and Empathy.

*Compensation:
York's CPM Compensation Framework has a salary grid consisting of 6 or 8 steps (depending on job grade) which is reviewed annually with possible adjustments, and a lump sum Performance Based Recognition Award. Employees will receive the grid adjustment and depending on performance, eligible permanent employees may move to the next step of the grid and may receive a lump sum Performance Based Recognition Award.Visit the CPM Compensation page on the HR Website to find out more about York's CPM Compensation Program.
