Purpose:
The Legal Career Consultant supports JD students as well as recent alumni in navigating the legal job market and professional pathways. This role provides confidential, one-on-one career advising, delivers targeted programs and strengthens employer engagement. The successful candidate will bring current knowledge of the legal profession, legal recruiting practices, exceptional counselling skills, and a demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility.
Education:
Bachelor of Law (LLB) or Juris Doctor (JD), or successful completion of the National Committee of Accreditation (NCA) requirements, along with admission to the Bar in a Canadian Province.
Experience:
2+ years of experience in legal practice, law firm recruitment, campus recruiting, legal career counselling, professional development, or talent acquisition in the legal sector.
Skills:
Effective advising/counselling, presentation, and facilitation skills.
Effective communication skills.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and manage sensitive information with discretion.
Proficient with online tools and platforms (e.g., Simplicity or 12Twenty) and Microsoft 365 (Outlook, Teams, Excel, SharePoint).
Additional Notes:
Ability to work for extended periods on a computer with repetitive hand movements.
Capacity to maintain focus and attention during detailed, confidential tasks.
Ability to engage in frequent face-to-face and virtual interactions with students, faculty, alumni, and employers.
Tolerance for moderate sensory stimulation (e.g., busy event environments, group discussions, virtual sessions).
Regular interaction with the general public, including students, employers, alumni, and external stakeholders, through advising appointments, workshops, career fairs, and recruitment events.
