Purpose:
Markham Campus (MC) will embed York University in the heart of one of the most diverse and dynamic urban communities in the province and country. Reflecting the local economy, academic programs and research will revolve around the core themes of technology and entrepreneurship and how they are driving innovation across all areas of knowledge and society.
Challenging the traditions of what a university campus can offer, Markham Campus will act as a unique meeting place for students to interact directly with employers, start-up companies, and community partners from across the region.
Reporting to the Deputy Provost Markham, the Executive Assistant provides efficient, professional, and confidential administrative support. Duties are broad, varied and often of a confidential nature. Daily activities involve interaction with employees, faculty and high-level internal and external contacts and officials, with frequent exposure to sensitive information requiring considerable tact, discretion, and judgment. In addition, the Executive Assistant will work with the Markham Campus (MC) team as a front-line ambassador to help promote the MC and provide general information on York University led initiatives, programs, and partnerships. The role is responsible for complex calendar management and coordination of a variety of administrative activities.
Education:
University degree in a relevant field.
Experience:
3 years of related experience providing a full range of executive support to a senior leader or administrator in a complex institutional environment.
Knowledge:
Knowledge of general office procedures and practices.
Working knowledge of managing in a unionized environment and applying a collective agreement.
Skills:
Effective communication skills, including the ability to produce clear and concise documentation and reports.
Effective planning, organizational and project tracking skills with the ability to multitask and comprehend new information quickly and balance priorities.
Effective and highly collaborative interpersonal skills, including listening and questioning skills, and the ability to build rapport across the institution while quickly and confidently gaining respect of others.
Effective attention to detail and proofreading skills. Ability to build relationships, negotiate and influence, and manage change in a complex environment.
Ability to provide effective service to the community and deal courteously and effectively with people at all levels.
Ability to exercise good judgment, initiative, and maintain confidentiality.
Able to apply cross-cultural sensitivity to work effectively with diverse groups of staff and students.
Skilled in proofreading, editing, and maintaining attention to detail.
Proficient with MS Office suite including Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Visio.
Ability to adapt to change and learn new applications.

*Compensation:
York's CPM Compensation Framework has a salary grid consisting of 6 or 8 steps (depending on job grade) which is reviewed annually with possible adjustments, and a lump sum Performance Based Recognition Award. Employees will receive the grid adjustment and depending on performance, eligible permanent employees may move to the next step of the grid and may receive a lump sum Performance Based Recognition Award.Visit the CPM Compensation page on the HR Website to find out more about York's CPM Compensation Program.
