Purpose:
The Communication & Multimedia Specialist plays a vital role in enhancing the visibility and reputation of the Faculty of Environmental & Urban Change (EUC) at York University. This position is responsible for developing and coordinating compelling content across print, digital, and social media platforms, ensuring that all messaging is consistent with the Faculty's strategic objectives and adheres to York University's communication standards. The Communication & Multimedia Specialist actively collaborates with faculty, staff, students, and external partners to produce impactful materials, including reports, newsletters, press releases, event promotions, and website updates by utilizing expertise in graphic design, video editing, and content management tools. The role continuously reviews engagement metrics to refine outreach strategies to foster community, student engagement, and strengthen relationships across York University. Through creative and technical communication efforts, the Communication & Multimedia Specialist supports the Faculty's mission of changing the world for a more sustainable and just future.
Education:
University degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, Public Relations, English, or another related field or an equivalent of 4 years recent experience (defined as within the last five years) working at York University and performing the same or similar tasks. This education equivalency is in addition to the experiential requirements outlined below. Additional knowledge/experience requirements:
Demonstrated experience and a passion for social media, emerging technology, and knowledge of trends in digital communications.
Experience in creating and identifying quality digital, social, and multimedia content in higher education recruitment and retention.
Expertise working with design and editing tools including Adobe Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, Premier Pro), CapCut, Final Cut Pro etc.
Intermediate knowledge of graphic design best practices and principles for digital projects, and strong knowledge of and experience with current digital design trends and standards, including AODA compliant design.
Experience:
Three (3) years' experience in communications, marketing, or public relations with an emphasis on writing, and a wide range of multi/social media, online communications including web, multimedia, and/or interactive online content creation. Experience executing communication strategies that involve several stakeholders. Skill with developing and engaging with social media channels with both paid and organic campaigns. Familiarity and experience with analytics platforms.

Ability to work effectively with people of diverse backgrounds and promote a positive working environment, spirit of cooperation and positive reactions to change and conflict resolution.
Skilled at articulating needs and plans to executives and internal teams.
Ability to integrate social media into broader communications and marketing campaigns and identify trends and opportunities within the user generated content space.
Intermediate data, analytics, and metrics reporting ability including online monitoring and measurement platforms (Sprout, Meltwater/Cision, Facebook Insights, YouTube Insights and Google Analytics).
Advanced proficiency in MS Word, MS Powerpoint, QuarkXpress, Adobe Suite (Photoshop, Premier Pro, and Illustrator).
