Purpose:
YSpace is York University's pan-university entrepreneurship and innovation hub, supporting startups and entrepreneurs from a variety of sectors and communities. Our programming spans across scaling innovative technologies through customer and investor capital to scaling agri-food businesses into mass retail to diversity-focused initiatives like ELLA for women-led businesses and Black Entrepreneurship Alliance (BEA) for Black-led businesses. We are also home to two physical hubs in the City of Markham and the Town of Georgina. The Marketing Manager is responsible for the development, management, implementation, evaluation and monitoring of YSpace's digital and traditional marketing strategies. The role oversees the day-to-day management of the marketing team and ensures effective implementation of marketing processes and procedures. The Marketing Manager works collaboratively with the program teams to launch new programs and projects, and overall demand generation for YSpace programs and products.
Education:
Undergraduate degree in business, marketing, communications or related field.
Certificate or diploma in marketing, digital marketing, analytics or entrepreneurship.
Experience:
Minimum 4 years' experience developing and implementing integrated marketing campaigns, including overall brand and product campaigns
Minimum 2 years' experience managing staff and vendors
Extensive experience consulting with internal and external parties to create data informed marketing strategies
Experience creating and overseeing the creation of traditional and electronic marketing collateral, copywriting for different media channels, managing events and evaluating ROI of marketing initiatives
Experience launching and optimizing cross-channel marketing programs
Sales experience is an asset but not required
Skills:
Knowledge
- Knowledge of the Canadian and international entrepreneurship ecosystem, including university-based entrepreneurship hubs
- Knowledge and understanding of Canadian and international legislation, ethical standards and policy documents relating to marketing, data collection, privacy, and accessibility
- Knowledge of best practices in qualitative and quantitative market research
- Knowledge of Customer Relationship Management software and generating data reports, trends and analytics
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office suite of software
- Knowledge of design software such as Canva, Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Lightroom Skills
- Effective communication skills
- Effective long-form and short-form copywriting skills for a variety of media channels including news articles, media releases, speaking remarks, presentations, reports and social media captions
- Effective project management skills with critical path mastery and ability to achieve results
- Effective problem-solving skills, critical thinking and professional judgement to creatively develop solutions towards meeting targets
- Communications and Public Relations expertise designing and implementing internal and external communication and PR strategies
- Customer relationship management expertise with reporting and optimization of CRM software and market automation
- Demonstrated ability to measure, benchmark and analyze marketing ROI
- Ability to conduct financial/budget planning, forecasting and management
- Ability to conduct effective research on competitive environment, industry benchmarks and emerging trends
- Ability to use and oversee work with design software

- Occasional travel for events, conferences and meetings
- Occasional coverage of weekends and evening events when needed

*Compensation:
York's CPM Compensation Framework has a salary grid consisting of 6 or 8 steps (depending on job grade) which is reviewed annually with possible adjustments, and a lump sum Performance Based Recognition Award.
