Purpose:
The Graduate Peer Support Assistant provides graduate students with engagement activities, resources, and peer support, and also facilitates workshops and programs for Student Accessibility Services (SAS), under the direction of the Educational Specialist.
Education:
- Minimum completion of the 1st year of graduate studies at York University in mental health, health science, education, social work or related field.
Experience:
- Minimum of 1 year relevant experience facilitating workshops, group sessions, or presentations, and experience with mental health and/or disability and supporting others in an academic, peer, or community-based environment.
Skills:
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage diverse student populations.
- Ability to demonstrate responsible, ethical, and professional conduct.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to provide insight and suggestions to support individuals in making informed decisions.
- Ability to multi-task and manage competing priorities.
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Zoom, and other online collaboration tools.
- Ability to navigate and refer to campus and community resources effectively.
- Familiarity with recovery-oriented, student-centred, or wellness-focused approaches.
