Purpose:
Reporting to the Dean of the School of Arts, Media, Performance & Design (AMPD), the Executive Officer (EO) is the chief non-academic administrator for the School and provides strategic direction and operational oversight of non-academic services. Key areas of focus include financial management, planning and budgeting, human resources activities, academic resource planning, strategic planning, policy development, communications, facilities management and special projects. The EO plays a central role in strategic planning and operationalization, working closely with the Dean, Associate Deans, Chairs/Directors, and senior academic and administrative leaders to support the achievement of AMPD's vision, mission and strategic priorities. The role advises the Dean on policy and procedural matters, guides continuous improvement and change management initiatives, and champions a student- and client-centered culture of engagement, equity, diversity, inclusion, and high performance. The role represents the School on institution committees and with senior administrators across the University. The EO role is accountable to the Senior Executive Officer in the Provost & Vice-President Academic Office for compliance with Divisional administration matters focused on Human Resources, Finance, Information Technology, and Facilities.
Education:
Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline, such as Finance, Business Administration/Commerce, Human Resource or Information Technology.
Experience:
7 years related experience in a University, post-secondary environment, including project management experience, an extensive knowledge of the academic environment and faculty culture, an understanding of application of the strategic planning, policy development, approval and implementation processes, and experience managing large and complex financial, human, and physical resources, including analysis, modelling and reporting.
5 years of management experience.
Experience in managing a centrally accessed service supporting numerous, complex service recipients.
Experience leading a team in an environment of change and managing employees in a unionized environment.
Skills:
Understand the goals and objectives of a University.
Knowledge of the academic environment and Faculty culture.
Knowledge of academic and administrative decision-making processes.
Understanding of application of the strategic planning, policy development, approval and implementation processes.
Understanding and awareness of post-secondary education sector priorities and pressures, the economic landscape in which the University operates, and an understanding of political trends (government enrolment, budget) to make effective decisions and/or recommendations on resource allocation.
Knowledge and application of partnership principles in an academic setting, and international recruitment strategies in a complex global context
Knowledge in business process improvement, continuous improvement, and quality management.
Knowledge of accounting, financial planning, and auditing and related legal requirements and regulations thereof.
Knowledge of Information Technology strategic planning, operations services, and data management.
Knowledge of best practices in registrarial services, career services, experiential education, and online learning.
Knowledge of space planning and facility management.
Knowledge of risk management best practices.
Knowledge of human resources, labour relations, labour law, learning & development, employee engagement, culture development, Health & Safety legislation.
Effective business acumen and entrepreneurship including ability to develop, monitor, modify and measure the effectiveness of a strategic plan and its priorities.
Effective communication skills including the ability to convey messages that can be understood across the organization from the ground level through the executive and board level.
Effective and highly collaborative interpersonal skills, including high comfort level with leading discussions, negotiations, planning sessions and presentations at the senior level.
Effective skills in leadership, coaching, talent management, problem-solving, and creating a high-performance environment.
Able to effectively build relationships, negotiate and influence, and manage change in a complex environment.
Effective analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to identify, analyze and propose solutions for existing issues. Able to anticipate challenges and potential opportunities.

Ability to effectively manage multiple projects and a high volume of work with competing priorities within constrained timeframes.
Proficient with Microsoft Office applications, including the ability to produce reports.

*Compensation:
York's CPM Compensation Framework has a salary grid consisting of 6 or 8 steps (depending on job grade) which is reviewed annually with possible adjustments, and a lump sum Performance Based Recognition Award.
