Purpose:
Reporting to the Associate Director, Recreation and Active Living, the role provides managerial, strategic and operational leadership for recreation and sport participation programs that foster student engagement, belonging, leadership development and well-being across York's campuses. The role is responsible for the planning, implementation and evaluation of a broad portfolio that includes intramural sport leagues and tournaments, sport competitions, drop-in sport and recreation programs, special events, student leadership and engagement initiatives, and recreation programming delivered at both the Keele and Markham campuses. This includes leadership of the PLAE Program and the development and delivery of recreation, sport and Markham fitness opportunities that strengthen community connection, participation and the student experience. The role advances participation, engagement and community-building objectives through innovative, inclusive and accessible programming.
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline such as Kinesiology, Education, etc.
Experience:
- 4 years related experience in applicable recreation programming.
- 2 years management or supervisory experience.
Skills:
Knowledge
- Knowledge of recreation administration, sport and recreation programming, student engagement practices, program design and assessment methodologies.
- Knowledge of principles and practices related to leadership, employee relations, performance management and workforce planning.
- Knowledge of risk management, emergency procedures, health and safety requirements and relevant legislation applicable to recreation and sport environments.
- Knowledge of budgeting principles, financial planning, revenue generation and resource stewardship.
- Knowledge of equity, diversity, inclusion and accessibility principles as they relate to recreation programming and service delivery.
- Knowledge of post-secondary student development, wellbeing, engagement and belonging frameworks.
- Knowledge of applicable university policies, procedures, collective agreements and governance structures.Skills

Additional Notes:
- Works primarily in a office environment with frequent facility and event environments.
- Requires periodic evening and weekend work in support of programs, events and operational requirements and to participate in incident response as needed.
- Occasional travel between Keele and Markham campuses.

*Compensation:
York's CPM Compensation Framework has a salary grid consisting of 6 or 8 steps (depending on job grade) which is reviewed annually with possible adjustments, and a lump sum Performance Based Recognition Award.
