We are currently seeking candidates for part-time Groundskeepers as part of our on-going recruitment process to establish a pool of qualified candidates for various current and future opportunities at York University. While they vary depending on the specific classification and unique needs of the department, services are provided 24/7 in a number of difference classifications up to a maximum of 24 hours per week.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Litter control and emptying of garbage receptacles exterior to all building areas on campus.
  • Watering and care of indoor and outdoor plants.
  • Hand spraying herbicides.
  • Fertilizing, top dressing and applying soil amendments.
  • Applying mulches.
  • Sodding and seeding.
  • Planting flowers, bulbs, shrubs and vines.
  • Trimming hedges and pruning dead wood from trees and shrubs.
  • Digging, cultivating, weeding and edging planting beds.
  • Line painting and maintenance of sports fields.
  • Repairing of concrete structures and surfaces.
  • Construction and repair of walks and patios.
  • Operation of lawn and garden tractors and equipment(up to approximately - 30 H.P.).
  • Shovel snow and apply ice-melting products at entrances, stairs and sidewalks.
  • Wash/wipe clean large recycle and garbage bins.
  • Power wash debris throughout the campus.
  • Other duties as may be assigned by the Supervisor.

Qualifications include:

  • Minimum of 2 years recent grounds care and maintenance experience, including some knowledge of the maintenance requirements of plant materials OR equivalent combination of experience and academic training
  • Experience shoveling (snow, dirt) and lifting heavy equipment / materials / heavy objects- Knowledge of maintenance requirements of plant materials.
