Purpose:

This position is accountable to the Assistant Manager for the effective supervision of staff and maintenance of the University interior spaces including daily cleaning services, project floor re-finishing, carpet maintenance, window washing, interior waste & recycling, space/furniture reconfigurations, lamp replacements, identifying and reporting building deficiencies and hazards, general immediate support to the York University Community at Keele, Glendon and Markham campuses. Responsible for issuing and recovering of building keys and ensuring proper lock up of keys. Monitor established and implemented operating procedures and policies. Ensures efficient and cost-effective custodial services are provided to the University.
Education:
Completion of a Community College diploma in related field or equivalent. or Building Operations Certificate. Class 'G' driver's license.
Experience:
Minimum 3 years recent directly related experience along with 2-years of Supervisory experience in a unionized environment is required.
Skills:
Skills (Specialized knowledge):Computer skills such as e-mail, word processing, spreadsheets, presentation software and basic knowledge of work loading software/databases. Demonstrated basic accounting skills. Excellent interpersonal skills are required and customer relations skills. Respects diversity and promotes inclusion in the workplace, contributes to an inclusive and diverse team-based, positive work environment. Recognizes diversity of abilities and adapt content, tone, medium, and style to audience to be inclusive. Committed to continuous learning and skill building in diversity, inclusive and cultural competence.
Knowledge: A thorough knowledge of cleaning systems (both hard and soft) and quality assurance programs. Knowledge in floor restoration, carpet maintenance, washrooms care, chemical attributes of products, custodial equipment / tools: 120/220 volt electrical. 36/24-volt battery operated. Manual tools. Knowledge in Interior waste/recycling management. Knowledge of internal key systems and securing devices. Knowledge of the Ontario Health & Safety Act including thorough knowledge in WHMIS (Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System) regulations. Knowledge of: University departmental practices, procedures and the University Administrative structure. Knowledge of the process for returning staff to work programs for work and/or non-work-related injuries. Employee Assistance Programs and other benefits. Knowledge of industry contractors/suppliers/trade shows. Workers Compensation and reporting incidents/accidents. Ministry of Transportation guidelines due to vehicle usage. Some knowledge of other University collective agreements: CUPE 1356-1, YUSA, IUOE.

Please note: This position requires the candidate to produce a verification of degree(s), credentials(s), or equivalencies from accredited institutions and/or international equivalents at the time of interview. Please note: This position requires the successful candidate maintain a valid Driver's License and a produce a satisfactory Driver's Abstract. The successful candidate would have to provide proof of a valid Driver's License and a satisfactory Driver's Abstract upon being hired.

*Compensation:
York's CPM Compensation Framework has a salary grid consisting of 6 or 8 steps (depending on job grade) which is reviewed annually with possible adjustments, and a lump sum Performance Based Recognition Award.
