Purpose:
Under the direction of the Senior Manager, Office of Institutional Events, the Events and Communications Coordinator provides events and communications support for the Division of the President. The Events & Communications Coordinator facilitates the integration of events and communications that encourages and enhances stakeholder relations. Fosters growing levels of engagement and support for the University. This includes acting as a resource for university events, while coordinating communications
Education:
College Diploma in Journalism, Communications, Marketing, Business, Digital Communications, Visual Art, Event Management, Public Relations or Hospitality or an equivalent of 2 (two) years recent experience (defined as within the last three years) working at York University and performing the same or similar tasks. This education equivalency is in addition to the experiential requirements outlined below. Requires knowledge of fundraising professional standards and ethics. Professional writing certification is an asset.
Experience:
Three (3) years in the Communication field including:
Writing and producing digital and print communications pieces such as formal invitations and event programs
Project Management
Event coordination
Producing multimedia communications (photographs)
Developing work-back schedules and critical paths
Making recommendations on scope of work and resources needed
Recruitment and coordination of students and volunteers
Skills:
Demonstrated skills including:
Ability to write, edit and proofread at an advanced level in the English language
Impeccable accuracy in grammar, spelling and content verification
Excellent oral communication skills
Ability to write and edit a broad range of communications
Demonstrated use of tact, courtesy, and discretion.
Ability to work effectively under pressure of high volume and daily deadlines
Ability to handle diverse communications assignments
Ability to work effectively in a team-based environment
Ability to work independently and exercise good judgmentDemonstrated computer skills including:
Advanced desktop publishing (Adobe Creative Cloud, InDesign)
Advanced photo editing (Adobe Photoshop)
Advanced web design (HTML, CSS, WordPress)
Advanced word processing (MS Word)
Advanced presentation software (MS PowerPoint)
Advanced e-mail service provides (Exact Target)
Intermediate spreadsheets (MS Excel)
Intermediate Project management software (Asana)
Advanced database management (MS Access)
Additional Notes:
Please note: This position requires the candidate to produce a verification of degree(s), credentials(s), or equivalencies from accredited institutions and/or international equivalents at the time of interview. Hours of work: 8:30am-4:30pm. May also be required to attend events outside of these regular office hours.Summer:
