Purpose:

Our division is comprised of four departments:
Alumni Engagement provides programs, services, and engagement to over 370,000 York alumni worldwide.
Development leads efforts to promote and secure philanthropic support from alumni, donors, friends, corporations, and foundations.
Advancement Communications & Marketing works to promote and communicate alumni and donor messages along with direct marketing services for alumni and donor engagement
Advancement Services & Operations is the administrative and technology support unit for all Advancement activities.

Advancement Events is a team within the Alumni Engagement Department. Under the direction of the Associate Director, Convocation & Advancement Events, the Senior Planner leads the development, coordination and implementation of all ceremonies and Development events both on and off York's campuses. Ceremonies and Development events include but are not limited to convocation, installations of Presidents and Chancellors, building openings, building naming, ground breakings, and donor stewardship experiences such as tours and special visits. The Senior Planner provides event planning support and expertise within the Division and Advancement Events team on a project and case by case basis. This position engages the growing communities of staff, students, faculty, donors, and alumni to foster and facilitate engagement and support, financially and otherwise, for the University.

Education:
An undergraduate degree in Theatre, Business. Communications, Humanities, Marketing, Social Sciences or Visual Art or an equivalent of 4 years recent experience (defined as within the last five years) working at York University and performing the same or similar tasks. This education equivalency is in addition to the experiential requirements outlined below.

Experience:
Four (4) years' experience in the planning and implementation of large-scale events (1000+ attendees) are essential, including:
2 years in a lead role executing convocation
2 years stage and production management
Coordinating the work of others, including staff and volunteers

Skills:
Demonstrated skills including:
Strong oral and written communication skills.
Excellent organization and project management abilities to coordinate, plan and schedule multiple complex projects and budgets at the same time.
Superior attention to details.
Budgeting skills.
Initiative and creativity.
Strong event coordination skills.
Tact, discretion and courtesy essential, even in times of challenging and conflicting demands.
Working effectively under pressure of high volume and meeting daily deadlines.
Exercising good judgment.
Balancing the competing demands of day-to-day work and frequent interruptions.

Technical skills including:
Intermediate Word processing (MS Word).
Intermediate Spreadsheets (MS Excel).
Intermediate Presentation software (MS PowerPoint).
Basic / Introductory Databases (MS Access).
Knowledge of event-management software.
