Purpose:
In advancing the Division of Students' Vision as Partners in Student Success' assists in the development, implementation, and coordination of the Indigenous Recruitment Program by scheduling recruitment visits and orientation sessions and visiting with Indigenous community agencies. In a team environment the ISRO researches and develops a York presentation, then individually delivers the presentation in secondary schools across Ontario. The ISRO also counsels and advises prospective students, counsellors and parents. The purpose of these activities is to develop a well-informed, vibrant, highly academic group of applicants to York University.

Education:
University degree required, or an equivalent of 4 years recent experience (defined as within the last five years) working at York University and performing the same or similar tasks. This education equivalency is in addition to the experiential requirements outlined below.

Experience:
1 year related experience (e.g., liaison, public relations, customer service, marketing, student advising/counselling etc.), including making effective presentations in an educational environment. Experience working with the Indigenous community is required.

Skills:

Effective verbal communication skills to present detail information concisely and clearlypublic speaking and/or making effective presentations.
Ability to analyze and interpret information.
Effective interpersonal, public relations, cultural skills including sensitivity to Indigenous issues
Effective organizational skills, working independently, and setting priorities.
Effective written communication skills. Ability to exercise good judgment and initiative, working effectively underpressure of time constraints. Effective interpersonal skills with an ability to maintain confidentiality.
Ability to bend and lift up to 30 lbs. Additional knowledge required:
Knowledge of the Ontario university educational system, admissions criteria and university programs, previous interaction with secondary school aged students, guidance/educational counsellors, or teachers preferred..

Please note: This position requires the successful candidate maintain a valid Driver's License and a produce a satisfactory Driver's Abstract. The successful candidate would have to provide proof of a valid Driver's License and a satisfactory Driver's Abstract upon being hired.Please note: This position requires the candidate to produce a verification of degree(s), credentials(s), or equivalencies from accredited institutions and/or international equivalents at the time of interview. Hours of work: 8:30 am-4:30pm. This position requires flexible hours within a 7-hour workday to allow for presentations and attendance at events as a representative of the University that occur outside of the normal business day/week. Some evenings and weekend work requiredSummer: Same as above. Reduced workday by one hour on Friday (June, July, August) 8:30 am-3:30 pm.Occasional overtime will be availablePeak periods for this position: August to November and February to MayHours during peak periods: as defined above in hours of work during peak periodsVacation restriction: During peak periods
