Purpose:
The Manager, Student Athlete Services and Compliance and provides strategic and operational leadership for student-athlete services, compliance, and sport club administration within York's Athletics & Recreation (A&R) Department and the established Sports Model. This role ensures the delivery of integrated, student-centred programs that foster academic success, personal development, and regulatory compliance for varsity athletes and sport club participants. The Manager also collaborates with campus partners to support the formation, governance, and oversight of student-led sport clubs affiliated with A&R.Reporting to the Executive Director, Athletics & Recreation, the Manager leads a team of student-athlete services professionals and works collaboratively with the Associate Director, High Performance Sport Programs, Manager, Sports Medicine, coaches, volunteer club coaches, and campus partners including the Registrar's Office, academic advising, and student services units. Together, they provide holistic support for student-athletes throughout their lifecycle from recruitment and onboarding to academic progression and graduation.

Education:

Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline.Note: Verification of degree(s)/credential(s) required.

Experience:

5 years of related experience in student services, sport administration, or compliance.
3 years management experience.
Experience administering budgets and managing schedules.
Experience leading unionized employees and working in a post-secondary environment.
Familiarity with OUA/U SPORTS regulations and university academic policies.

Skills:
Knowledge
Familiarity with Canadian university sport systems, including U SPORTS and OUA compliance regulations, eligibility rules, and governance frameworks.
Understanding of Student-athlete development principles, including academic success strategies, mental health supports, holistic well-being, and high-performance environments.
Knowledge of equity, diversity, inclusion, and anti-racism (EDI-AR) principles applied in sport and educational settings.
Understanding of financial management practices, including budget development , monitoring, forecasting, resource optimization and athletic financial awards administration.
Knowledge of human resources and supervisory practices within unionized environments, including interpretation of collective agreements.
Knowledge of recruitment, transition, and retention strategies for diverse student-athletes across the student-athlete lifecycle.
Knowledge of Risk management and safe sport principles for travel, facilities, and competition.
Understanding of institutional governance and alignment of athletics with academic priorities.
Up to date with current trends in sport, recreation, and student affairs (e.g., mental health, gender equity, sport integrity).Skills
Effective leadership and team management skills in unionized and multi-stakeholder environments.
Advanced organizational and time-management skills to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
Effective written and verbal communication, including report writing, public speaking, and partner engagement.
Ability to develop and implement long-term strategies aligned with departmental and institutional goals.
Proficiency in data systems (e.g., AIMS, SIS) and Microsoft Office Suite, including Office 365 applications.
Ability to conduct evidence-based planning using KPIs and performance metrics. ability to interpret and apply data to improve program effectiveness and inform decisions.
Effective conflict resolution, negotiation, and mediation skills.
Ability to apply an EDI lens to policies, programs, and operations.
Advanced problem-solving and decision-making skills for eligibility, appeals, and risk mitigation.
Ability to develop compliance education programs for coaches, staff, and student-athletes.
Effective planning and execution of complex logistics for athletic programs, events, and team travel.
Capacity to lead change management initiatives and foster an inclusive team culture.

Additional Notes:

Normal office work environment.
Occasional work in the evening and weekend for games, events, conferences and meetings.
Occasional travel to away games.
Requires flexibility, resilience, and discretion in handling sensitive student matters.

*Compensation:
York's CPM Compensation Framework has a salary grid consisting of 6 or 8 steps (depending on job grade) which is reviewed annually with possible adjustments, and a lump sum Performance Based Recognition Award.
