Purpose:
The Disability Programs Assistant is responsible for providing administrative, research, student and program development support for disability-specific programs within the university.
Education:
Must be enrolled as a York student.
Experience:
- Experience in an administrative, student-support, peer-support, program/event support, or communications role is an asset.
- Experience applying accessibility practices (e.g., accessible documents, accessible customer service, inclusive events, or digital accessibility) is an asset.
Skills:
- Knowledge of disability-related and accessibility concepts, supports, and inclusive practices is an asset.
- Familiarity with disability justice principles and/or lived experience (personal or through community involvement) is an asset. disclosure is not required.
- Knowledge of the Social Model of Disability.
- Ability to present and share ideas with an audience.
- Ability to provide instructions and support others in developing knowledge and skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to plan social activities, programs, and events that contribute to an engaged community.
- Ability to use research methods to identify and verify information.
- Ability to generate new ideas or recommend changes to existing programs.
- Ability to demonstrate empathy and respond in a thoughtful manner.
- Ability to collaborate and work with others to complete a shared goal.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, Access, Outlook or PowerPoint.
