Our dedicated, service-oriented staff allow our Faculty community to flourish.The Faculty of Science has approximately 4,700 undergraduate students and approximately 400 graduate students and is comprised of five Departments: Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics & Statistics, Physics & Astronomy, Science & Technology Studies and one Division â?? Natural Science.The Communications Manager is responsible for the development of high-quality internal and external communications strategies that align with the Faculty and the University's strategic priorities and raise the profile of Science at York and for the implementation and execution of the Faculty's brand and visual identity. The Manager will play a key role in advancing the priorities of the Faculty by showcasing the strength and breadth of scientific research and science outreach activities as well as implementing communication initiatives that would target all aspects of the student life cycle, from student recruitment to alumni. The Manager represents the Faculty within the University with respect to communications/media standards, policy and planning issues and collaborative efforts both within the University and with external partners. The Manager is responsible for researching, developing and producing materials for a wide range of communications publications/media. The Manager acts as the primary contact with the Communications and Public Affairs Division (C&PA) and will champion the development and promotion of a strong and effective identity emphasizing the reputation of the Faculty.

Education:

University degree in science, communications, public relations and/or marketing

Experience:

5 to 7 years' recent experience in strategic communications or public relations with an emphasis on print, electronic and new media technologies and interactive communications channels. experience writing promotional and informational copy for both print and e-media. experience in developing and executing communication strategy where several stakeholders are involved. demonstrated experience working in academic or not-for-profit environment. experience with research environment. familiarity with university-level outreach activities.

Skills:
Knowledge
Expert knowledge of strategic, creative, and tactical communications and marketing practices, procedures, and standards
Knowledge of response-measurement methodology, technology, and reporting
Knowledge of print design, printing processes, and related procedures
Superior knowledge of marketing principles and promotional practices
Advanced knowledge of software tools including MS Office, graphics programs, desktop publishing, web publishing, and web analytics (e.g., Google Analytics)
Knowledge of purchasing, budgeting, and contract processes
Commitment to staying current with emerging technologies and adapting strategies accordinglySkills
Excellent oral and written communication skills, including strong grammar and copy editing
Communication planning skills, including the ability to craft and execute communications plans
Critical attention to detail
Ability to understand complex material and write clear, engaging, and compelling content for diverse audiences
Demonstrated expertise in developing and collecting ideas
Strong relationship-building skills with multiple stakeholders
Ability to prepare objective-driven communication strategies, manage execution, and conduct post-strategy evaluation
Ability to conceptualize, analyze, develop, produce, and coordinate communications materials
Highly developed research and analytical skills to evaluate the effectiveness of communications initiatives
Excellent organizational, project planning, and management skills
Excellent interpersonal skills, including tact, diplomacy, discretion, and professionalism
Demonstrated ability to manage confidentiality at the highest level
Strong judgment, initiative, and decision-making ability

*Compensation:
York's CPM Compensation Framework has a salary grid consisting of 6 or 8 steps (depending on job grade) which is reviewed annually with possible adjustments, and a lump sum Performance Based Recognition Award.
