Purpose:
As partners in student success, The Division of Students provides services, programs and facilities that foster academic success, student development and community engagement. Supporting the Division, the Communications & Marketing Department creates strategic, timely, targeted and engaging student-centric communications. The Social Media Coordinator is responsible for social media coordination, digital content development, media monitoring and the measurement of social media through tools, reporting, and metrics. With direction from the Manager, Content Strategy, the Coordinator will develop student-centric social content that interacts with our student community daily, as well as facilitate and drive shared social content from all Divisional units. The role will execute day-to-day social media activity and other digital projects and will be responsible for building and maintaining a presence on platforms, including but not limited to: Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, and TikTok for the Division of Students. To support social media goals and to ensure all communication channels and messaging are aligned, this position will work closely with members in the Communications & Marketing department, other divisional units, and across the organization.

Education:
University degree in English, Communications, Marketing, Digital Media, Publishing, Design or a related field with an emphasis on social media, or an equivalent of 4 years recent experience (defined as within the last five years) working at York University and performing the same or similar tasks. This education equivalency is in addition to the experiential requirements outlined below.

Experience:
Minimum of three years recent related experience in the communications or marketing field with an emphasis on social media community engagement in a business setting. Experience using established and emerging social media channels in a professional/business setting for communication, customer service and audience engagement with demonstrated experience in content development, including writing for digital media.

Skills:
Ability to grow followers and increase engagement on social media channels in a business setting, including but not limited to Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, TikTok, LinkedIn, Snapchat, Reddit, WhatsApp, WeChat, forums, and blogging software.
Effective verbal and written communications skills including editing experience with English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation.
Analytical skills for researching, selecting, testing, measuring and reporting on traditional and innovative digital communication channels with the ability to effectively use tools to measure campaign success and deliver actionable recommendations to managers and stakeholders for consideration.
Ability to exercise initiative and resourcefulness, capacity for creativity and innovation.
Ability to problem solve and apply sound judgment.
Accuracy and attention to detail.
Ability to work independently and within a team.
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships, exercise tact, diplomacy and discretion when working with confidential marketing information and dealing with various levels of administration and external agencies.
Ability to work in a project-based environment, handle concurrent priorities, respond to immediate situations and meet regular scheduled deadlines.
Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office suite of programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Advanced skills with online analytic tools (Google Analytics, Hootsuite, Sysomos Heartbeat, etc.) Intermediate knowledge of the Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, Acrobat, Bridge, etc.)
Proficiency with content management systems (Drupal, WordPress), customer relationship management systems (Microsoft Dynamic CRM or Salesforce)
Proficient with email distribution and project tracking methodology
Ability to learn and stay current and apply technologies in social media
