Purpose:
The Program Manager & Special Advisor, Indigenous and Reconciliation Initiatives leads the development, coordination, and implementation of Osgoode Hall Law School's commitments to answering the Truth and Reconciliation Commission's (TRC) Calls to Action. This position will:
- Support prospective Indigenous student recruitment and admissions
- Provide advice regarding academic supports, financial aid, and career development for current Indigenous students, and
- Serve as a key contact with Osgoode's Indigenous alumni. The Program Manager provides expert advice to the Dean, faculty, and staff on Indigenous protocol, practices, customs, and legal knowledge, and offers support and assistance in integrating Indigenous knowledge and experience into all facets of the Law School. This includes:
- Providing culturally sensitive advice on the allocation of funding dedicated to supporting Indigenous initiatives
- Overseeing the design and delivery of related events, programs, and communications
- Providing education and training, and
- Supporting faculty members seeking to incorporate Indigenous perspectives into their courses and research.The Program Manager also works to foster strong, respectful relationships with Indigenous Elders, communities, and organizations, both within and beyond Osgoode and York University. The role will work with community members and organizations to identify grant and partnership opportunities that support Indigenous initiatives and scholarship. The Program Manager will consult with, and seek guidance from Osgoode's leadership team, Indigenous faculty and administrative staff.

Education:
Bachelor's Degree in Indigenous Studies, Multicultural Studies, Sociology, Anthropology, Social Work, Education or related field.
A Bachelor of Law (LLB)/Juris Doctor (JD) or equivalent. Note: Requires verification of degree(s)/ credential(s) or equivalencies.

Experience:
5 years of experience developing Indigenous academic and non-academic programs, providing supportive counselling, and planning/coordinating events for students, educators, and Indigenous community members.
Experience in identifying and drafting funding proposals to foundations and government agencies.
Must self-identify as Indigenous and be able to demonstrate their belonging to a recognized Indigenous community.

Knowledge:
In depth knowledge of Indigenous cultures, histories, and communities, including the impacts of colonialism and current issues facing Indigenous peoples.
Knowledge of the legal education in Canada, including the integration of Indigenous content in curriculum
Proficiency in an Indigenous language is preferred to enhance communication and cultural connections.

Skills:
Effective communication skills to promote Indigenous initiatives, draft funding proposals, and interact with various partners.
Ability to cultivate and maintain relationships with Indigenous communities, government agencies, alumni networks, legal employers, and educational institutions.
Demonstrated ability to provide supportive counselling to Indigenous students, addressing their unique needs and challenges.
Ability to plan and coordinate culturally sensitive events and activities, ensuring compliance with risk management policies.
Ability to develop and implement strategic plans for the Indigenization of the curriculum and other initiatives.
Effective organizational and project management skills to oversee multiple initiatives and ensure successful execution.
Demonstrated ability in advocacy for Indigenous rights and integrating Indigenous knowledge into academic programs.
Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and external partners to achieve common goals.

*Compensation:
York's CPM Compensation Framework has a salary grid consisting of 6 or 8 steps (depending on job grade) which is reviewed annually with possible adjustments, and a lump sum Performance Based Recognition Award.
