Purpose:
York University's School of the Arts, Media, Performance & Design (AMPD) is one of North America's premier educational and research institutions for the visual, performing, and digital arts. The largest, most comprehensive program of its kind in Canada, we unite more than 3,100 undergraduate and graduate students and 300 full-time and part-time faculty working at the leading edge of creative arts practice and scholarship.AMPD offers in-depth academic studies (history, theory, criticism) and intensive, hands-on professional training in all the creative arts: dance, design, digital media, film, music, theatre, and visual arts/art history. The School emphasizes contemporary artistic production and process in all discipline areas and is known for its excellent facilities and leading research. AMPD is a destination for top artistic talent because we provide a dynamic space for students to push the boundaries of disciplinary rigour, create new cultural propositions, engage the integration of emerging technologies and forms of practice within the extensive scholarly resources of one of Canada's largest research universities.Working closely with the School's executive team, the Director, Communications and Digital Engagement provides leadership, direction and oversight of the development of comprehensive and highly integrated strategic communications and marketing plans that advance the vision, mission, reputational position and advancement goals of the School. The Director is principal to create a communications framework for the School related to all aspects of recruitment, admissions, and promotion that ensures the implementation of strategic planning. This includes leadership and coordination of resources related to recruitment activity pertaining to student enrolment. Utilizing novel digital platforms for communicating and marketing the School's brand, the Director will have an affinity for emerging digital technologies (e.g. VR/AR) in an effort to connect with a broader audience.

Education:
Graduate degree in a related field required: Marketing/Communications, project management training an asset.

Experience:
Minimum 7 years' experience in strategic communications and digital marketing, as well as recruitment and 4 years of management experience.
- Demonstrated success in brand development, maintenance, and the creation of innovative communications strategies.
- Demonstrated success in attaining targets, increasing market share, increasing social media traffic, shifting reputational markers.
- Demonstrated results in building high-performing teams including continuous quality improvement, process optimization and performance management.

Skills:

- Strong leadership with the ability to engage varied stakeholders in a consensus decision-making environment.
- Outstanding capacity to work with diverse teams, manage complex interpersonal dynamics and facilitate productive interactions.
- Strong verbal presentation skills to perform effectively as a persuasive representative of the School.
- Excellent writing and editing skills.
- Well-developed management skills that balance the ability to respond to the complex demands of a university environment with flexibility to operate comfortably in an entrepreneurial performance framework.
- Excellent team building skills to motivate and retain staff members.
- Strong strategic, operational, event and project planning/management skills.
- Networking, community building and partnership development skills.
- Strong working knowledge of market research data analysis tools, social media analytics, and comfort level across multiple software platforms.
- Exposure to the development of web-based communications.
- Willingness to take calculated risks in the pursuit of experimentation and innovation to generate bold and novel modes of communicating and marketing.

Additional Notes:
Incumbent typically works in a normal office environment, making extensive use of tools such as telephone and computer keyboard and screen. Incumbent is required to travel to meetings frequently in the Greater Toronto area. *Compensation:
York's CPM Compensation Framework has a salary grid consisting of 6 or 8 steps (depending on job grade) which is reviewed annually with possible adjustments, and a lump sum Performance Based Recognition Award. Employees will receive the grid adjustment and depending on performance, eligible permanent employees may move to the next step of the grid and may receive a lump sum Performance Based Recognition Award.Visit the CPM Compensation page on the HR Website to find out more about York's CPM Compensation Program.
