Purpose:
The York University School of Medicine (SoM) is dedicated to preparing the next generation of primary care physicians through a patient-centered, community-based approach. York University aims to enhance access to medical education for underrepresented groups, fostering a diverse and inclusive healthcare workforce.â?¯ Reporting to the UGME Program Curriculum Manager, the Educational Specialist will apply pedagogical expertise and facilitation skills to lead development and innovation initiatives in curriculum design. The role provides expert guidance on the creation, delivery, and evaluation of the Doctor of Medicine (MD) Program curriculum, operating within a Competency-Based Medical Education (CBME) framework and a programmatic assessment model. The Educational Specialist will manage a team to ensure the effective integration of educational technologies and instructional strategies across the curriculum.This role supports the School's commitment to primary care, generalist, interprofessional collaboration, evidence-informed practice, and community health. It requires the application of culturally relevant and responsive pedagogies, educational knowledge mobilization, and the advancement of equitable, inclusive, accessible, and decolonized teaching and learning practices.

Education:
Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline.
Master's degree in a relevant field such as Education (MEd), Health Professions Education, Curriculum Design, Instructional Design.
Certification in Adult Education and an Instructional Skills Workshop an asset.

Experience:
4 years related experience.
2 years of management experience.
Experience in educational development in a college, university or hospital environment.
Experience in instructional design, curriculum development, faculty development, or educational consulting.
Experience with learning analytics, data informed decision-making, or educational scholarship.
Proficiency with educational technologies and learning management systems.
Experience designing or supporting case based or problem-based learning.

Skills:
Knowledge
Knowledge of CBME principles, competency frameworks (e.g., CanMEDS), and outcome-based curriculum design.
Knowledge of and experience in Quality Assurance processes including accreditation requirements (e.g., CACMS) and understanding of approaches to quality improvement.
Understanding of the role of feedback and reflection in programmatic assessment approach.
Knowledge of aligning assessments with learning outcomes to support MD Program educational goals.
Demonstrated understanding of Equity, Diversity, Inclusivity and Disability Studies research, literature and approaches and commitment to integrating approaches into program development and delivery.
Demonstrated commitment to the principles and practices of equity, anti-racism, decolonizing and accessibility.
Understanding of community based medical education, generalism, and primary care education models and asset.
Knowledge of diverse learner assessment strategies that support competency development, including formative and summative assessments an asset.
Knowledge of theories and practices of decolonization and Indigenous pedagogies and education an asset.Skills
Effective organizational, administrative and project management skills.
Effective communication skills with some experience with academic and professional writing and editing skills.
Ability to work collaboratively in-person and virtual teams.
Ability to build strong relationships with faculty (clinical and academic), staff, and other interested and affected parties.
Effective presentation and facilitation skills. Ability to process, synthesize and present information/recommendations/plans to varied audiences.
Effective time management skills.
Ability to navigate complex curricular structures and organizational change and adaptability with iterative curricular development.
Ability to work independently and to collaborate and participate effectively within a team environment.
Effective analytical, problem solving and research skills.
Proficiency in MS Office Suite applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

*Compensation:
York's CPM Compensation Framework has a salary grid consisting of 6 or 8 steps (depending on job grade) which is reviewed annually with possible adjustments, and a lump sum Performance Based Recognition Award.
