Purpose:
Under the joint direction of the Division of Advancement, Alumni Engagement and the Division of Students, Career Education and Development (CED), the Alumni Career Coach role supports a global talent pool of over 360,000 alumni and graduating students and provides coaching and guidance on techniques, tools, and opportunities for gaining employment. The role provides coaching regarding job search skills, self-marketing tools, and techniques for identifying and developing job leads. Coaching and advising services are delivered via one-on-one coaching sessions, in-person, online, and hybrid workshops, social media chats, company information sessions and networking events managed by CED and/or industry partners. Services include industry advising, career coaching, editing of resumes, and editing and creation of other written documentation (personal branding documents, thank you letters, personal statements), and digital assets.

The role provides first-class exceptional level service to current and potential recruiters across all industries and sectors and serves as the first point of contact on all aspects of the recruiting process. In addition, the role serves as the first point of contact for graduating students and provides information on services, resources, and alumni engagement opportunities. The role coordinates industry-specific job postings, assists with industry-specific events, researches additional recruitment opportunities, explores the introduction of new technologies, and assists with implementation and process documentation.

Education:
University Degree (preferably with a specialization in Marketing, Business, Human Resources, Psychology, Consulting/Strategic Management, Operations, or General Management from a recognized university), or four (4) years' recent experience (defined as within the last five years) working at York University performing the same or similar tasks. Additional education through a Career and Work Counsellor/Career Development Practitioner diploma or Career Development Practitioner (CDP) certification and/or current member of the International Coaching Federation (ICF) and/or comparable 1-year post graduate diploma is considered a strong asset. This education equivalency is in addition to the experiential requirements outlined below.

Experience:
Five (5) years of related progressive experience in a professional/management-related position or a profession such as search/recruiting and/or talent acquisition in a top-tier firm in Canada or similar, including a minimum of two years (2) of direct coaching, advising, or mentoring. Preference will be given to candidates with prior experience in career coaching, corporate recruitment, and/or employer job development. Experience with anti-racism and anti-oppressive practices is a strong asset.
Current member of the International Coaching Federation (ICF) and/or certification as a Career Development Practitioner and/or current member of Human Resources Professional Association (HRPA) is a strong asset.

Skills:
Knowledge of career opportunities across all industries and sectors and relevant designations.
Experience and knowledge in developing workshops, including investigating industry trends and designing presentations. Demonstrated expertise and understanding of the Canadian training industry and labor market.
Strong analytical experience and understanding of education/job skills accessibility for underrepresented demographics, including but not limited to Black, Indigenous, and racialized communities, newcomers, first generation, 2SLGBTQIA+, persons with disabilities, and other equity-deserving groups.
Demonstrated experience in developing budget projections and account reconciliation.
Ability to pay attention to detail and accuracy is essential.
Advanced skills in Windows, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.be proficient and able to adapt to new and emerging multi-media platforms and programs as needed.
Knowledge of relevant analytics tools such as TalentNeuron.
Must be able to maintain online employer and student databases, job postings, interview scheduling, and statistical reports in customer relationship management (CRM) platforms or other similar online recruiting software
Effective active listening, superior oral and written communication skills, and excellent analytical skills.
Demonstrated relationship management and time management skills.
High energy and enthusiasm, positive and empathic, able to provide outstanding, knowledgeable customer service to students/alumni and recruiters
Ability to effectively handle high volumes of disparate work, demanding and/or disgruntled students and alumni, constant interruptions, conflicting priorities, and irregular deadlines.
Professionalism, tact, diplomacy, and confidentiality must be maintained at all times.
