Purpose:
Under the general direction of the Assistant Dean, Students, the Manager, Admissions & Student Financial Services will be part of a management team that is responsible for the development and implementation of services, policies and processes associated with the Office of Admissions and Student Services. They support the activities of the Office of Admissions and Student Services in furtherance of the strategic mission of the Law School and the University. Osgoode Hall Law School is committed to providing the highest quality of student services to its student body. To this end, Osgoode awards academic merit and financial need-based scholarships, awards and bursaries each year.As an experienced professional with personal experiences in a JD program, legal professional experiences and extensive contacts in the legal community, the Manager, Admissions & Student Financial Services will ensure the highest standard of delivery of various services, initiatives and supports to Osgoode JD students (including joint and exchange program students), alumni and, in some instances, Osgoode graduate students in the areas of recruitment, admissions and financial services.
Education:
University Degree required. JD, LL.B., or equivalent is an asset.
Experience:
Minimum five years' experience in the practice of law or educational administration with some experience managing staff, preferably in a unionized environment. Experience in a student services environment and managing budgets and student financial assistance is preferred.
Skills:
Proven ability to manage several functions simultaneously under pressure of resources and deadlines.
Strong leadership, communication (oral and written), public speaking, relationship management, analytical, research and project management skills are required.
Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Demonstrated ability to prioritize and manage tasks effectively in a high volume and fast-paced environment.
Proven ability to manage staff effectively, especially in a unionized environment.
Familiarity with the legal profession, ideally in Ontario, is preferred.
Excellent tact, diplomacy and confidentiality is required in working with students, employers, alumni, staff and senior level law school and University officials.
The ability to exercise accuracy, good judgment and efficiency in all interactions, with the ability to effectively communicate to diverse populations in a collaborative and collegial manner.
Demonstrated ability to be flexible and adaptable, with a commitment to excellence, innovation, effective change management, and proven ability to achieve results.
Willing to exercise flexibility in work hours to accommodate emergency and crisis situations.
Proficient with MS Office Suite (i.e. Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint) and ability to learn new applications, systems and databases.
Additional Notes:
High pressure of volume, with numerous competing time demands. Handling time sensitive materials. High level of accountability for job duties and responsibilities. Dealing with complex situations. Ability to work effectively with senior administration, faculty and staff. *Compensation:
York's CPM Compensation Framework has a salary grid consisting of 6 or 8 steps (depending on job grade) which is reviewed annually with possible adjustments, and a lump sum Performance Based Recognition Award.
