Purpose:
The Grounds Maintenance Person is required to perform a wide variety of semiskilled labour in connection with the maintenance, operation, appearance, and improvement of the York University grounds. This role includes both hands-on grounds upkeep and operational equipment-based work to ensure safe, clean, and functional outdoor environments year-round.

Education:

- Valid Ontario Class 'G' driver's licence and a driving record acceptable to the University (Driver's Abstract required and must be maintained).
- Ability to be insured under the University's vehicle insurance policy.A Pesticide Technician Certificate (Ontario) is an asset. Training may be provided to support compliance where duties require application.

Experience:

- Minimum two (2) years of recent grounds/landscaping experience or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and training.
- Demonstrated experience operating grounds maintenance equipment and power tools.
- Knowledge of plant materials, turf maintenance and seasonal grounds practices.
- Successful completion of a basic groundskeeping knowledge assessment (administered during the recruitment process).

- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
- Ability to follow direction, organize work and manage priorities in a busy campus environment.
- Proven ability to safely operate equipment and machinery. commitment to safe work practices and use of PPE.
- Physical ability to lift, move and handle tools, materials and equipment as per the Physical Demands below.
- Customer service orientation and ability to address community concerns professionally.
- Commitment to respectful, inclusive and accessible service consistent with York University values.

Additional Notes:
Physical Demands:
- Frequent walking, standing, stooping, crouching, foot action and forward reaching
- Constant gripping and handling
- Climbing in and out of equipment
- Frequent lifting/pushing/moving of items up to 20lb
- Lifting up to 50lb. pushing and pulling up to 25lb. sitting, bending and kneeling

Working Conditions:
- Outdoor work in all weather conditions. exposure to noise, machinery and environmental conditions.
- Use of telephone/radio/smartphone and various applications.
- Shift work and overtime may be required, particularly during winter operations.
