Purpose:
The Digital Sports Media Coordinator is a content creator specialist, able to tell York's Athletics & Recreation's story and enhance brand and reputation through a variety of digital media formats. Under the direction of the Manager, Engagement & Sport Information, the role is instrumental in strengthening the York Lion's brand while maximizing student engagement with Athletics & Recreation programming. Consistent program and sport information is delivered through digital content and customer/fan engagement through various social media platforms and the official York Lions website. The role works in a fast-paced environment with a variety of partners including students, staff, alumni, sponsors/donors, other post-secondary institutions, league offices and the broader York community. The role requires commitment and adherence to the values and principles of Athletics & Recreation as expressed in the mandate of the department.

Education:
College diploma in marketing, communications, photography/videography, graphic design or a related field or an equivalent of 3 years recent experience (defined as within the last three years) working at York University and performing the same or similar tasks. This education equivalency is in addition to the experiential requirements outlined below.

Experience:

Three (3) years of related work experience in a sport and/or recreation digital marketing or communications role, including website and social media marketing, photography/videography, and athletics based communications.
Experience developing social media, photography, and video content to market and promote athletics and recreation programs within a sport or recreation setting.
Experience measuring and analyzing social media performance, including account traffic, engagement metrics, and campaign effectiveness using social media and analytics tools.
Experience supporting advertising, public relations, and online marketing initiatives in a sport or recreation environment.

Skills:

Effective communication and editorial skills, including the ability to create clear, accurate, and engaging digital content tailored to diverse audiences and platforms in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to work effectively under frequent deadlines and high-volume demands, including during live events and peak sport periods that may require flexibility, evenings, and weekends.
Effective interpersonal skills and professional judgment. ability to work collaboratively and respectfully with student-athletes, coaches, employees, campus partners, media representatives, and external partners.
Effective organizational and time-management skills, including the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously, plan work independently, and adapt quickly to changing circumstances.
Effective judgment, initiative, and problem-solving skills, particularly in live or high-visibility sport and event settings where accuracy, timeliness, and brand alignment are critical.
Public relations and digital communications skills, including the ability to represent Athletics & Recreation in a professional manner and contribute to positive relationships with media, league partners, and the broader community.
Ability to analyze digital and social media performance using analytics and to apply insights to improve reach, engagement, and effectiveness of content.
Ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team, including providing guidance and constructive feedback to student content creators.
Advanced MS Office 365.
Proficiency with digital content creation tools, including Adobe Creative Suite (video, photo, and design editing) and Canva.
Advanced technical skills in photography, videography, and digital content production, including strong working.
Ability to learn and adapt new technology, including awareness of emerging social media platforms, trends, and best practices within digital marketing and sport communications.Knowledge:
Knowledge of major social media platforms and integrating content across multiple digital distribution channels.
Knowledge of social media platforms, digital storytelling best practices, and audience engagement strategies, with the ability to apply these tools to sport and recreation programming.
Knowledge of organized sport and recreation environments, including familiarity with sport terminology, competition structures, and the expectations associated with representing athletic programs and participants.

Hours of work: 9:30 AM to 5:30 PM with occasional evenings and weekends required based on pre-determined event scheduleSummer: Friday prior to Victoria Day to Labour Day Weekend â??
