Purpose:
The Faculty of Liberal Arts and Professional Studies (LA&PS) is the largest Faculty at York University with over 24,000 undergraduate and graduate students, and almost 100 programs delivered through 24 Departments, Schools and Colleges. Through innovative course design, diverse experiential education and learning opportunities, and a supportive community environment, our students receive the education they need to create big ideas that have an impact on the world.The Program Assistant role is responsible for providing course support to undergraduate and graduate faculty, administrative support to the undergraduate and graduate programs, and primary front desk reception for the academic unit.The Program Assistant role will support the vision, mission, values and strategic direction of the Faculty of Liberal Arts & Professional Studies and York University, and contribute to a positive, supportive and student-focused team environment of high performance, respect, trust, collaboration and continuous improvement, embraces diversity and fosters inclusion.
Education:
High school diploma with some post-secondary education (e.g. some University or College courses)
Experience:
One (1) year of experience in office administration and front desk reception in an academic School/Department including supporting undergraduate or graduate courses.
Skills:
Exercising exercise tact, diplomacy and discretion when dealing with others and maintain confidentiality.
Effective communication skills, including the ability to obtain and relay information accurately.
Effective customer service focused skills, including the ability to deal courteously and effectively with people.
Effective attention to detail, including accurate proofreading and cross-referencing skills.
Ability to exercise good judgment and flexibility in an environment of continuous change and process improvement.
Effective organizational skills, including the ability to set priorities and proactively pursue completion of tasks to meet deadlines.
Ability to work effectively and accurately under pressure of high volume and constant interruptions, ability to multi-task.
Ability to work in a team and to work effectively independently.
Advanced MS Word and Outlook, and intermediate MS Excel.
Ability to use content management systems to update websites such as Contribute or WordPress.
Knowledge of an on-line computerized records system (e.g. SIS)
