Purpose:
The Review Counsel, Immigration Law supports case management for the Community and Legal Aid Services Program (CLASP), which provides legal advice, representation, and public legal education for low income and culturally diverse communities.
Education:
Bachelor of Laws or Juris Doctor Degree and a member of the Law Society of Upper Canada, entitled to practice law in Ontario.
Experience:
Minimum of 3 years' experience in the practice of Immigration Law, appearing before related Boards/Tribunals/Courts, including but not limited to the areas of: Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada (IRB), Federal Court, judicial reviews, refugee law, humanitarian and compassionate grounds applications.
Knowledge:
Familiarity with substantive areas of law relevant to the position sought and with the related courts and tribunals in metropolitan Toronto, as well as the ability to adapt to new procedures and case files related to that area of law.
Understanding of the challenges of being a public interest lawyer.

Additional Notes:
The role is responsible for case management, including filling out forms and preparing legal correspondence and written materials for which accuracy and attention to detail is essential.Normal office environment. Some travel to attend courts and tribunals as required. Clientele are individuals who are experiencing immigration issues and may be suffering from numerous vulnerabilities including mental health challenges and homelessness. Clients may have experienced significant trauma, and a trauma-informed client-centred approach to legal practice must be used.
