Purpose:
Markham Campus (MC) embeds York University in the heart of one of the most diverse and dynamic urban communities in Canada. Reporting to the Project & Implementation Manager, the Events & Operations Coordinator is responsible for coordinating internally and externally facing events and supporting the day-to-day operational activities of Markham Campus. The role ensures the successful planning and delivery of campus events while contributing to operational readiness, space coordination, health and safety compliance, access management, and service coordination to support a safe, efficient, and professional campus environment.

Education:
College Diploma in hospitality, event management, business administration or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Equivalent education may include a minimum of two years' recent experience (within the last three years) at York University performing similar responsibilities in event coordination, campus operations, or related functions. This equivalency is in addition to the experiential requirements outlined below.

Experience:
Three (3) years of experience coordinating events and/or campus operations. Experience coordinating logistics, service providers, space utilization, access requirements, and health and safety-related activities is required.

Effective customer service skills, including the ability to respond to enquiries and provide information in a professional, timely, and courteous manner.
Effective organizational and time management skills, including the ability to coordinate multiple activities, manage competing priorities, and meet deadlines while maintaining a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
Effective coordination skills, including the ability to organize and manage multiple operational and event-related activities, service providers, resources, and timelines simultaneously.
Effective problem-solving skills, including the ability to identify issues, assess options, and recommend appropriate solutions.
Effective budgeting and financial tracking skills.
Ability to exercise sound judgment, initiative, discretion, and tact when dealing with confidential, sensitive, or complex matters.
Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to adapt to changing priorities, evolving procedures, and operational requirements, and to contribute to the refinement of processes and practices.

Technical:
Intermediate MS Office (Word, Excel, Access)
Ability to use scheduling, booking, access management, and other operational systems (e.g., 25Live, Skedda) or similar platforms.
Ability to learn and apply new systems and applications

Knowledge:
Knowledge of policies, procedures, and operational requirements related to event planning, facility use, external visitors, and health and safety requirements.

Additional Notes:
Please note: This position requires the successful candidate maintain a valid Driver's License and a produce a satisfactory Driver's Abstract. The successful candidate would have to provide proof of a valid Driver's License and a satisfactory Driver's Abstract upon being hired.
