Purpose:
Reporting to the Associate Director, Recreation and Active Living, the role provides managerial, strategic and operational leadership for active living, fitness, aquatics, youth and community-based programs and services that promote health, well-being and lifelong physical activity. The role is responsible for the planning, implementation and evaluation of a broad portfolio that includes fitness centre operations, group fitness programs, aquatics programs and services, instructional and certification courses, youth camps and programs, facility rentals and community-based recreation initiatives. The role also supports the delivery of high-performance youth camps and clinics and advances participation, engagement and community wellness objectives through innovative and accessible programming.
Education:
- Bachelor's Degree in a relevant discipline such as Kinesiology, Education, etc.
Experience:
- 4 years related experience in relevant recreation programming.
- 2 years management or supervisory experience.
Skills:
Knowledge
- Knowledge of recreation administration, active living, fitness, aquatics, youth programming, camps, certifications and community recreation programming.
- Knowledge of industry standards, risk management practices and legislation applicable to recreation, aquatics, camps, youth programs and fitness operations.
- Knowledge of principles and practices related to leadership, employee relations, performance management and workforce planning.
- Knowledge of budgeting principles, financial planning, revenue generation, cost recovery models and resource stewardship.
- Knowledge of equity, diversity, inclusion and accessibility principles as they relate to recreation programming and service delivery.
- Knowledge of health promotion, physical activity, wellbeing and participant development principles.
- Knowledge of applicable university policies, procedures, collective agreements and governance structures.Skills

Additional Notes:
- Works in a combination of office, fitness, aquatics, recreation facility and camp environments.
- Requires periodic evening and weekend work in support of programs, events and operational requirements and to participate in incident response as needed.
- Occasional travel between Keele and Markham campuses.

*Compensation:
York's CPM Compensation Framework has a salary grid consisting of 6 or 8 steps (depending on job grade) which is reviewed annually with possible adjustments, and a lump sum Performance Based Recognition Award.
